2019–20 Premier League Of Belize
The 2019–20 Premier League of Belize was the ninth season of the Premier League of Belize, the highest competitive association football, football league in Belize, after it was founded in 2011. There were two seasons which were spread over two years. Teams Opening season From the 2018–19 Premier League of Belize closing season, 7 teams continued to play in the opening season of 2019–20, with Placencia Assassins FC (Belize), Placencia Assassins returning to the league to replace Police United FC (Belize), Police United. Freedom Fighters were also rebranded to Valley Pride Freedom Fighters FC, Valley Pride Freedom Fighters and relocated to Dangriga from Punta Gorda, Belize, Punta Gorda. There would be one league consisting of the 8 teams, who will play each other twice, with the top 4 teams advancing to the end of season playoffs. The opening season commenced on 27 July 2019. Premier League Of Belize
The Premier League of Belize is the highest competitive football league in Belize. It was founded on 28 December 2011 after the merger between the Belize Premier Football League and the Super League of Belize. History The formation of the league was a combination of Belize’s suspension by FIFA and the Belize Premier Football League withdrawing from the Football Federation of Belize. It was decided that a brand new top league was to be formed, the winner of which would represent Belize in the CONCACAF Champions League. Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019–20 Premier League of Belize closing season was cancelled after the eighth round of games and a winner was not crowned. The Premier League of Belize (PLB) was suspended from administering the 2021–22 season by the Football Federation of Belize (FFB). MCC Grounds (stadium)
The Marylebone Cricket Club Grounds (''MCC Grounds'' for short) is a Belizean football stadium, located on the Northside of Belize City, Belize. Football It has traditionally been the homefield of all Belize City clubs that participate in national and international competitions. It is currently being occupied by FC Belize of the Premier League of Belize (PLB). It also plays host to primary school and high school football competitions. San Ignacio, Belize
San Ignacio and Santa Elena are towns in western Belize. San Ignacio serves as the cultural-economic hub of Cayo District. It got its start from mahogany and chicle production during British colonisation. Over time it attracted people from the surrounding areas, which led to the diverse population of the town today. San Ignacio is the largest settlement in Cayo District and the second largest in the country, after Belize City. History The town was originally named El Cayo by the Spanish. On 19 October 1904, El Cayo was officially declared a town by the government of British Honduras. In the past a creek ran between the Macal and the Mopan rivers one mile outside of San Ignacio going toward Benque Viejo. This creek then fulfilled the definition of an area of land completely surrounded by water and thus the name Cayo, "island". San Pedro Town
San Pedro is a town on the southern part of the island of Ambergris Caye in the Belize District of the nation of Belize, in Central America. According to the 2015 mid-year estimates, the town has a population of about 16,444. It is the second-largest town in the Belize District and largest in the Belize Rural South constituency. The once sleepy fishing village was granted the status of a town in 1984. San Pedro's inhabitants are known as San Pedranos and most of them originally came from Mexico. Most speak both Spanish and English fluently. Due to the influence of English-based Kriol, most San Pedranos can speak English, as well as an intermediate form between English and Spanish that is known as "Kitchen Spanish". Placencia Assassins Football Club are a football team based in Placencia, Belize. They currently play in the Premier League of Belize. In 2011, they were crowned as Super League of Belize champions. Their home stadium is Placencia Football Field. In 2018, they formed a agreement with Altitude FC with their franchise leased was leased for a year, and Altitude's team name was changed to Altitude Assassins, in which they participated in the 2018–19 Premier League of Belize. At the end of the 2018-19 Premier League of Belize Tournament, after completing a year as Altitude Assassins, the lease was terminated and Altitude regained their franchise, and returned to the Premier League of Belize. Placencia
Placencia is a small village located in the Stann Creek District of Belize. History Prior to the European colonization of the Americas, the Placencia Peninsula was inhabited by the Maya. Archaeological evidence suggests that the Maya in this area produced salt and traded it with other settlements along the coast. In the 17th century, Placencia was settled by English Puritans, originally from Nova Scotia and Providence Island. This settlement died out during the Spanish American wars of independence in the 1820s. The Placencia Peninsula was resettled in the late 1800s by several families.
