The 2019–20 Pittsburgh Penguins season was the Pittsburgh Penguins seasons, 53rd season for the National Hockey League team that was established on June 5, 1967. This season saw the team try to extend their playoffs streak to 14 seasons. The season was suspended by the league officials on March 12, 2020, after several other professional and collegiate sports organizations followed suit as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. On May 26, the NHL regular season was officially declared over with the remaining games being cancelled. The Penguins advanced to the playoffs. Metropolitan Division
The National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division (often referred to simply as the "Metro Division") was formed in 2013 as one of the two divisions in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference as part of a league realignment. It is also a successor of the original Atlantic Division (NHL, 1993–2013), Atlantic Division and one of the two successors to the Southeast Division (NHL), Southeast Division. The Pittsburgh Penguins are a National Hockey League (NHL) franchise based in Pittsburgh. The franchise was established as one of six new teams in the 1967 NHL expansion and is currently a member of the Eastern Conference's Metropolitan Division. The Penguins played their home games at Mellon Arena from the team's inception until 2010, when they moved into the PPG Paints Arena. The franchise is co-owned by Ronald Burkle and Mario Lemieux, the latter of which was the only player/owner in the NHL's modern era during the later years of his playing career. The Pegula Ice Arena is a 6,014-seat multi-purpose arena in University Park, Pennsylvania on the campus of Penn State University. The facility is located on the corner of Curtin Road and University Drive near the Bryce Jordan Center.
