2019–20 PWHPA Season
The 2019–20 PWHPA season was the first season of the ongoing strike by the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA). The organization had been established after the Collapse of the Canadian Women's Hockey League, collapse of the CWHL in May 2019, and organized a number of exhibition games and events throughout the season until the COVID-19 pandemic caused public events to be cancelled. Business Budweiser was among the companies entering into partnerships with the PWHPA during the season, stating that "Budweiser is committed to sponsor the women's game." In November 2019, the company produced a two minute advertisement for the organization, set to the tune of The Hockey Song and featuring a number of PWHPA players and figures from the hockey community, calling for better support for women's hockey with the tagline "This game is for us all." Professional Women's Hockey Players Association
The Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to advocating for the promotion of professional women's ice hockey. It was founded in May 2019 following the dissolution of the Canadian Women's Hockey League, which only paid stipends, and player's dissatisfaction in the operations of the National Women's Hockey League. Their goal is to create a sustainable professional league for women's ice hockey in North America. Marie-Philip Poulin
Marie-Philip Poulin-Nadeau (born March 28, 1991) is a Canadian ice hockey forward, currently with the PWHPA and who serves as captain of the Canada women's national ice hockey team, Canadian national team. A three-time Olympic and three-time World champion with the Canadian national team, Poulin famously scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal games in three out of four of the Olympics in which she competed (2010 Olympic Winter Games, 2010, 2014 Winter Olympics, 2014 and 2022 Winter Olympics, 2022), for which she was dubbed Captain Clutch by her teammates and the media. Lori Dupuis
Lori Dupuis (born November 14, 1972) is a Canadian women's ice hockey player. Playing career Dupuis was born and raised just outside Cornwall, Ontario. She is a former member of the Cornwall Wolverines of the OWHA. She started with the Wolverines at the age of 10, and won Provincial "C" and "B" Championships. After playing minor ice hockey in Cornwall, Dupuis attended the University of Toronto, where she played with the Varsity Lady Blues from 1991 to 1997 and was nominated as female athlete of the year in 1996 and 1997. Dupuis was captain of the Lady Blues women's ice hockey team program from 1994 to 1996. During the 1992-93 season, she was the Blues Alternate Captain. In 1994-95, she was second in league scoring. Lee Ethel Stecklein (born April 23, 1994) is an American ice hockey defenseman and member of the US national team, currently playing in the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) with Team Harvey's. She has represented the United States at the Winter Olympic Games in the 2014, 2018 and 2022. Her college ice hockey career was played with the Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey program. Monique Edith Lamoureux-Morando (born July 3, 1989), previously known as Monique Lamoureux-Kolls, is a former American ice hockey player, author, gender equity advocate, and co-founder of the Lamoureux Foundation. She scored the game-tying goal in the final of the 2018 Winter Olympics before her twin sister Jocelyne scored the last shootout goal of the game to clinch the gold medal. She also captured silver medals for Team USA at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. Hilary Knight (ice Hockey)
Hilary Atwood Knight (born July 12, 1989) is an American ice hockey forward with the PWHPA and the United States women's national ice hockey team. She previously played for the Les Canadiennes de Montreal of the CWHL and the Boston Pride of the NWHL, with whom she won the inaugural Isobel Cup. Knight competed for the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program, as well as for Choate Rosemary Hall. In her first year at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Knight helped the team place second in the NCAA championships. Kali Flanagan
Kali Dora Flanagan (born September 19, 1995) is an American ice hockey player for the American national team and the Boston Pride of the PHF. She also serves as an assistant coach for the Northern Cyclones, the first female coach in USPHL history. Career Flanagan was originally a figure skater before switching to hockey. In high school, she served as captain for the girls hockey team at the National Sports Academy (Lake Placid, New York). Across 157 games in the NCAA, she put up 72 points.
