2019–20 NBL Canada Season
The 2019–20 NBL Canada season was the ninth season of the National Basketball League of Canada. The regular season was supposed to run from December 26, 2019, to April 23, 2020. However, on March 12, the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. On April 1, the season was officially cancelled with the league saying they will "begin preparations for its tenth season in 2020–21". The 2020–21 season was also cancelled. League changes Because of financial difficulties, two of the league's teams, Saint John Riptide and Cape Breton Highlanders, were granted a one-year sabbatical, with the goal of finding new sponsors in order to rejoin the league next season, reducing the league to eight teams. The decrease in the number of teams also caused a change in the playoff format with the top two teams in each division qualifying for the postseason. National Basketball League Of Canada
The National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada; french: Ligue nationale de basketball du Canada) is a Canadian professional men's minor league basketball organization. The NBL Canada was founded in 2011, when three existing Premier Basketball League teams joined with four new franchises for the league's inaugural season. The league has changed in size multiple times and has four active teams for the 2023 season, all in Ontario, but historically has had several located in the Atlantic provinces. The league's season typically begins in November and ends in April of the following year. The most recent champions are the London Lightning, having defeated the KW Titans 3–0 in the 2022 NBL Finals. Joe Salerno
Joseph Salerno Jr. (born 1981) is an American professional basketball coach, currently serving as the head coach of the Syrian national team. He previously served as the Head Coach and General Manager of Player Operations of the Moncton Magic also as the Vice President of Player Personnel for the Island Storm for six seasons, leading them to a three Atlantic Division titles, and two appearances in the NBL Canada Finals. Prior to his time in Canada, Salerno served as the Head Coach for the Vermont Frost Heaves (Barre, VT) of the now defunct Premier Basketball League. Cane Broome
Cane Broome (born November 29, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for the St. John's Edge of the National Basketball League of Canada. He played college basketball for the Sacred Heart Pioneers and the Cincinnati Bearcats. College career He was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week three times as a sophomore. On February 20, 2016, he became the only player since the 2010–11 season score at least 39 points, post six rebounds and six assists without turning the ball over. Broome was named Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year in his sophomore season at Sacred Heart, just the second sophomore to do so. Jarryn Skeete (born April 16, 1993) is a Canadian professional basketball player for the Sudbury Five of the National Basketball League of Canada. He played college basketball for Buffalo.
