2019–20 Middlesbrough F.C. Season
The 2019–20 season was Middlesbrough's third consecutive season in the Championship in their 144th year in existence, the club also competed in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. The season covered the period from 1 July 2019 to 20 July 2020. George Friend continues as the official club captain in his first full season in the role, having previously replaced a departing Grant Leadbitter in the second half of the 2018–19 season, who left to return to Sunderland in January 2019. This season also marked Jonathan Woodgate's first spell in charge of a professional club, who replaced an outgoing Tony Pulis, who left at the end of his contract. Woodgate was sacked as manager on 23 June 2020, with Middlesbrough only outside the Championship relegation zone on goal difference after 38 games. Middlesbrough F
Middlesbrough ( ) is a town on the southern bank of the River Tees in North Yorkshire, England. It is near the North York Moors national park. It is the namesake and main town of its local borough council area. Until the early 1800s, the area was rural farming land. By 1830, a new industrial town and port started to be developed, driven by the coal and later ironworks. Steel production and ship building began in the late 1800s, remaining associated with the town until post-industrial decline occurred in the late twentieth century. Grant Leadbitter
Grant Leadbitter (born 7 January 1986) is an English former professional Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder. He made more than 500 appearances in the Premier League and English Football League, Football League, which included 212 for Middlesbrough F.C., Middlesbrough, 180 for Sunderland A.F.C., Sunderland and 116 for Ipswich Town F.C., Ipswich Town. Leadbitter retired at the end of the 2021 season, having won the EFL Trophy in his final season with Sunderland. Leadbitter played for Sunderland from 2003 until 2009 after rising as a product from the team's Academy of Light, Youth Academy before signing for Ipswich Town. He spent seven seasons with Middlesbrough before finishing his career with Sunderland. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield position whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. Anfernee Jamal Dijksteel (born 27 October 1996) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Championship club Middlesbrough. Darren Edward Andrew Randolph (born 12 May 1987) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club AFC Bournemouth and the Republic of Ireland national team. Tomás Mejías Osorio (born 30 January 1989) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for AD Ceuta FC. Club career Real Madrid Mejías was born in Madrid.
