2019 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships
The 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 16 September to 22 September 2019. The competition took place at the National Gymnastics Arena and served as a qualifier to the 2020 Olympic Games. There were Olympic berths awarded to 16 individuals and 5 groups. There were 301 participating athletes from 61 countries. Dina Averina from Russia won gold medals in ball, clubs, and ribbon, and Ekaterina Selezneva won the hoop title. Averina, Selezneva and Arina Averina won Russia's tenth consecutive World team title. In the all-around finals, Dina Averina won her third consecutive World all-around title, becoming the fifth rhythmic gymnast to do so. The Russian group then won their fourth consecutive all-around title, and Japan matched their best-ever result with the silver medal. Anzhelika Vadimovna Stubailo (russian: Анжелика Вадимовна Стубайло; born 5 September 2001) is a Russian group rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2019 World Group All-around champion and the 2019 European Games Group All-around bronze medalist. Personal life Anzhelika Stubailo was born on 5 September 2001, in Volgograd. She began rhythmic gymnastics when she was 3 years old. She is currently a student at the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health in St. Petersburg, Russia. Career Stubailo joined the main group of Russia's national rhythmic gymnastics team in 2019. Anastasia Shishmakova (russian: Анастасия Шишмакова; born ) is a Russian group rhythmic gymnast. She is a two-time (2018, 2019) World Group all-around champion and the 2018 European Group all-around champion. Career Anastasia took up rhythmic gymnastics at the age of 5 in her home town Seversk, Russia. Evgeniia Levanova (russian: Евгения Леванова; born ) is a Russian group rhythmic gymnast. She is a three-time (2017–2019) World Group all-around champion. Career Evgeniia took up rhythmic gymnastics at the age of 4 in her home town Cheboksary, Russia. Her mother introduced her to this sport. At the age of 12, she entered the artistic gymnastics department of the Nizhny Novgorod School of the Olympic Reserve. She joined Russian National team in 2016. Vlada Ihorivna Nikolchenko ( uk, Влада Ігорівна Нікольченко; born 9 December 2002) is a retired Ukrainian individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2019 Worlds clubs bronze medalist, the double (2018-19) World Cup Series winner with clubs and the Grand Prix Final 2018 Winner. She has won multiple medals at European Championships and European Games. Career Junior Before beginning rhythmic gymnastics, Nikolchenko participated in Aesthetic Group Gymnastics. Katsiaryna Aliaksandraŭna Halkina ( be, Кацярына Аляксандраўна Галкіна; russian: Екатерина Александровна Галкина; born 25 February 1997) is a retired Belarusian individual rhythmic gymnast. Nicol Zelikman ( he, ניקול זליקמן; born January 30, 2001) is a former Israeli individual rhythmic gymnast. She is a two-time medalist at the 2016 European Junior Championships. Early life Zelikman was born and raised in Kfar Saba, Israel. Her grandparents, father, and mother were born in Baku, Soviet Azerbaijan. They had lived there, met and married; and in 1993 they moved to Russia, and then immigrated to Israel. She has a twin brother and two older brothers. She was introduced to rhythmic gymnastics by her mother; Elena "Lena" Zelikman, who is also her personal assistant coach.
