2019 World Athletics Championships – Women's 800 Metres
The women's 800 metres at the 2019 World Athletics Championships was held at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar, from 27 to 30 September 2019. Summary The new IAAF testosterone rule was essentially aimed at this event. The defending champion, silver medalist and 4th place from 2017, the same athletes as the Olympic podium from 2016, were denied entry into this race. From the gun in the final, Ajeé Wilson ran with purpose to take the lead at the break and control the race. Natoya Goule and Raevyn Rogers fell in line behind her. Around the second turn, Halimah Nakaayi ran around Rogers who slowed to become a blocking force in the pack, dropping back as far as next to last just after the bell. Ana Fidelia Quirot Moré (; born March 23, 1963) is a former track and field athlete from Cuba, who specialised in the 800 metres but was also successful over 400 m. At 800 metres, she is a two-time World Champion (1995, 1997) and a two-time Olympic medallist (1992, 1996). Her best time of 1:54.44 from 1989 still ranks her fifth on the world all-time list. She is regarded as one of the best female 800 m runners of all time, and probably the best to not have an Olympic gold medal in the event. Career Quirot was born in Palma Soriano, Cuba. Liu Dong (; born 27 December 1973 in Jinzhou) is a retired Chinese middle-distance runner. She holds the current Asian record over 800 metres with 1:55.54. Pamela Jelimo (born 5 December 1989) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner, specialising in the 800 metres. She won the gold medal in 800 metres at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing at the age of 18. She is the first Kenyan woman to win an Olympic gold medal and also the first Kenyan to win the Golden League Jackpot.
