2019 Winthrop Eagles Men's Soccer Team
The Winthrop Eagles are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent Winthrop University, located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Winthrop's 17 men's and women's teams compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Big South Conference. Winthrop University
Winthrop University is a public university in Rock Hill, South Carolina. It was founded in 1886 by David Bancroft Johnson, who served as the superintendent of Columbia, South Carolina, schools. He received a grant from Robert Charles Winthrop, a Boston philanthropist and chair of the Peabody Education Board in Massachusetts, to establish the school. Since its inception, Winthrop has developed into a comprehensive university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees through five colleges and schools. Xavier Cooks
Xavier Cooks (born 19 August 1995) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League (NBL). He played college basketball for the Winthrop Eagles, where he was named the 2018 Big South Conference Player of the Year. Lucile Godbold
Lucile Ellerbe Godbold (May 31, 1900 – April 5, 1981) was an American track and field athlete. She competed in the long jump and several running and throwing events at the 1922 Women's World Games, also known as the First International Games for Women, and won a gold medal in the shot put and a bronze in the javelin throw; she finished fourth in the 300 m and 1000 m races. In 1922 Godbold graduated in physical education from the Winthrop University, Winthrop College and in September of that year she began a 58-year teaching career at Columbia College (Columbia, South Carolina), Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina. Chandler Reed Vaudrin (born June 26, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the Motor City Cruise of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Walsh Cavaliers and the Winthrop Eagles. High school career Vaudrin attended Lake High School in Uniontown, Ohio. He stood 5'10" as a freshman and grew to 6'6" by his senior year. Vaudrin was an All-Ohio Division I selection in his final two seasons. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (, ) are the athletic teams that represent Coastal Carolina University. They participate in Division I of the NCAA as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in most sports, having joined that conference as a full but non-football member on July 1, 2016. At that time, the football team began a transition from the second-level Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to the top-level Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Winthrop Eagles women's basketball team represents Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, United States and competes in the Big South Conference. History Winthrop began play in 1969. From 1982 to 1986, they played in the NAIA before joining the NCAA in 1986. They made an appearance in the WNIT in 2013, their first postseason appearance in school history. Michael Jerome Jenkins (born September 6, 1986) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Winthrop University. College career In his four-year career at Winthrop, Jenkins played 131 games (70 starts) while averaging 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 22.6 minutes per game. As a senior, he led the Eagles to their fourth straight conference title and was named the 2008 Big South tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring 33 points to return the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament.
