2019 Wellington Local Elections
The 2019 Wellington Region local elections were part of the wider 2019 New Zealand local elections, to elect members to sub-national councils and boards. These elections covered one regional council (the Greater Wellington Regional Council), eight territorial authorities (city and district councils), three district health boards, and various community boards and licensing trusts. Wellington Region
Greater Wellington, also known as the Wellington Region (Māori: ''Te Upoko o te Ika''), is a non-unitary region of New Zealand that occupies the southernmost part of the North Island. Ken Laban
Fauono Ken Laban (born 1957) is a New Zealand rugby league footballer, broadcaster and politician. Biography Laban grew up in Wainuiomata with his older sister Winnie Laban, who was later a Member of Parliament. His parents, Amy and Ken Snr, came to New Zealand from Samoa in the 1950s. He attended Scots College in Wellington. Straight after leaving school he joined the New Zealand Police, working there for 16 years. He then briefly went into community work before entering broadcasting. In 1990 he became a sports commentator for TVNZ. In 2000 he began commentating rugby on Sky. He married Donna Liddell, a police inspector. He was a noted rugby league player and played for the Wainuiomata Lions. His final game for the club was their victory in the 1990 Lion Red Cup final, where Wainuiomata beat Otahuhu 34–12, thought to be the first win by a non-Auckland team at Carlaw Park. Jill Day (politician)
Jillian Marie Day (born 1978 or 1979) is a New Zealand politician. She is the president of the New Zealand Labour Party, and was deputy mayor of Wellington from 2017 to 2019. Early life and family Of Ngāti Tūwharetoa descent, Day was born in Palmerston North and also lived in Christchurch before moving to Wellington when she was 14 years old. She holds a science degree in biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology from Victoria University of Wellington and a post graduate diploma in primary teaching, and went on to become a primary school teacher in Wellington. Justin Mark Lester (born 23 December 1978) is a New Zealand businessman and politician. He was Mayor of Wellington between 2016 and 2019, following six years on the Wellington City Council. Early life and career Lester is from Invercargill, where he lived with his mother and two brothers in a state house. Wellington City Council

Ray Wallace (mayor)
William Raymond Wallace (born 1961) is a New Zealand politician. He served as mayor of Lower Hutt from 2010 to 2019. Biography Early life Wallace was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, in 1961. He received his education at Te Aro Primary, St Mark's Church School and Wellington College. He has worked in real estate, health care, and the security industry. Helene Ritchie
Helene Ruth Paula Ritchie (née Hess; born 16 March 1945) is a former local body politician, registered psychologist and mediator, and a board member from Wellington, New Zealand. As Wellington's longest serving City Councillor of over 30 years, she led the Labour team to a majority position on the council. Later, she was the first female deputy mayor and chaired the Wellington Airport Authority and its successor for eight years. Daran Mark Ponter (born 20 February 1968) is a New Zealand local-body politician who on the 30th of October 2019 succeeded Chris Laidlaw as the chair of the Greater Wellington Regional Council.
