2019 Tuvalu A-Division (women)
The 2019 Tuvalu A-Division was the 19th season of top flight association football in Tuvalu. The season started and finish on 2019. Tuvalu A-Division competition The competition takes place at the 1,500-capacity Tuvalu Sports Ground in Funafuti, this is the only football field in Tuvalu. The football clubs are based on the communities of the 8 major islands of Tuvalu, with the rivalry between these 8 teams being maintained by each having a ‘home’ island. Tuvalu A-Division
Tuvalu A-Division or The National Provident Fund Championship League (NPF) is the top football division in Tuvalu. Eight of the nine islands in Tuvalu are represented in the competition. Niulakita is the only island that has no football club. Some clubs have two teams competing. The competition takes place at the 1,500-capacity Tuvalu Sports Ground in Funafuti, this is the only soccer field in Tuvalu. Because of this all of the clubs are located at the head island but still represent their own eight islands. The Tuvalu A-division has no relegation rule. The B-Division is the competition for the B teams of each club. The same applies for the C-Division. The competition was founded in 2001. FC Manu Laeva
FC Manu Laeva is a Tuvaluan football club from Nukulaelae that currently plays in the Tuvalu A-Division. The team's home ground is the Tuvalu Sports Ground, the only football field in Tuvalu. Manu Laeva plays on an amateur level, as do all the teams in Tuvalu. They also have a reserve squad and a women's team. History Manu Laeva was formed in 1980. The first name was Tavakisa for A team and the B Team Called Young Kisa. In 1998 Tavakisa and Young kisa were renamed Manu Laeva A and Manu Laeva B. In 1998 and 2001, they won their first prizes. Manu Laeva won 6-0 against FC Nanumaga in 1998 Tuvalu KnockOut Cup. Of all teams they won the Tuvalu Games the most. They won it in 2008, 2009, and 2011 and 2014. Nui (football Club)
Nui FC is a Tuvaluan football club from Nui that plays in the Tuvalu A-Division. It was formed in 1980. The team's home ground is the Tuvalu Sports Ground Tuvalu Sports Ground is a multi-use stadium in Funafuti, Tuvalu. It is currently used mostly for football and rugby matches. Vaitupu
Vaitupu is the largest atoll of the nation of Tuvalu. It is located at 7.48 degrees south and 178.83 degrees east. There are 1,061 people (2017 Census) living on with the main village being Asau. Geography The island, which covers approximately , includes swamps, mangroves, a fringing coral reef, and a large lagoon. Vaitupu atoll consists of at least nine isles: * Luasamotu * Mosana (group of 2) * Motutanifa * Temotu * Te Motu Olepa * Tofia * Vaitupu proper * and at least one other islet The biggest island is Vaitupu proper, followed by Tofia. Nukufetau
Nukufetau is an atoll that is part of the nation of Tuvalu. The atoll was claimed by the US under the Guano Islands Act some time in the 19th century and was ceded in a treaty of friendship concluded in 1979 and coming into force in 1983. It has a population of 597 who live on Savave islet (2017 Census). In 1951 the school that was located on Motumua islet was transferred to Savave and became the government primary school for Nukufetau. It was named the Tutasi Memorial School in honour of its predecessor. Geography Nukufetau is an atoll with passages through the reef that allow large ships to enter and anchor in the lagoon. Tamanuku
Tamanuku, formerly known as FC Teasi, is a Tuvaluan football club from Nukufetau that currently plays in the Tuvalu A-Division. The team's home ground is the Tuvalu Sports Ground, the only stadium in Tuvalu. Tamanuku plays on an amateur level, as do all the teams in Tuvalu. They also have a reserve squad and a women's team. History Tamanuku was formed in 1980. The first name was FC Teasi. Tamanuku won the Independence Cup in 2005, against Lakena United with a score of 1–0. Niutao
Niutao is a reef island in the northern part of Tuvalu. It is one of the nine districts (islands) of Tuvalu. It is also one of the three districts that consist of only one island - not counting the three islets inside the closed lagoon. Niutao has a population of 582 (2017 census). Geography There are two lakes (ponds or lagoons), which are brackish to saline. The larger has three islands and a dam. There are three wells from which fresher water sits in a "lens" above the salt water that leaches in through the coral. Older maps show the only village as Tuapa (with the neighbourhood of Angafoulua). The main village is Kulia; another village is Teava. There is a maneapa (community hall), Uepele Primary School, a church named ''Tineifale'' of the Church of Tuvalu, a post office, and three wells. FC Niutao is a Tuvalu football club from Niutao, playing in the Tuvalu A-Division. The team's home ground is the Tuvalu Sports Ground, the only football field in Tuvalu. Niutao plays on an amateur level, as do all the teams in Tuvalu. They also have a reserve squad. History Niutao have won the first three years that the Tuvalu A-Division existed. Nukulaelae
Nukulaelae is an atoll that is part of the nation of Tuvalu, and it has a population of 300 (2017 census). The largest settlement is Pepesala on Fangaua islet with a population of 300 people (2017 Census). It has the form of an oval and consists of at least 15 islets. The inhabited islet is Fangaua, which is long and wide. The easternmost point of Tuvalu is Niuoko islet. The Nukulaelae Conservation Area covers the eastern end of the lagoon. A baseline survey of marine life in the conservation zone was conducted in 2010. Education The junior school is Faikimua Primary School. History The traditional history of Nukulaelae is that a white-skinned man was the first person to sight the island, but he did not settle as there were no trees. Nukulaelae means 'the land of sands'. Later, according to tradition, Valoa from Vaitupu discovered Nukulaelae while on a fishing expedition. Nanumea
Nanumea is the northwesternmost atoll in the Polynesian nation of Tuvalu, a group of nine coral atolls and islands spread over about of the Pacific Ocean just south of the equator and west of the International Date Line. Nanumea is with a population of 512 people (2017 census). Geography Located along one edge of the so-called Polynesian triangle, Nanumea lies just south of the Gilbert Islands, which are Micronesian in language and culture. Nanumea is a classic atoll, a series of low islets sitting on a coral reef shelf surrounding a lagoon. About long by wide in overall size, the dry land area is about . Nauti FC
Nauti FC is a Tuvalu football club from Funafuti, playing in the Tuvalu A-Division. The team's home ground is the Tuvalu Sports Ground, the only football field in Tuvalu. Nauti is one of the most successful teams in Tuvalu, with the most trophies of all the nation's teams. Nauti plays on an amateur level, as do all the teams in Tuvalu. They also have a reserve squad and a women's team. History Nauti was founded in 1980, under the name Combined Devils. The name was initiated by Mr Igatia Talesi. In 1976, he started a mixed team of men from Funafuti and other Tuvalu Islands with the name Combined Devils. It was in 1980, that Nauti/Combined Devils was officially recognised as the Funafuti Soccer Team. The team's first red uniform was sponsored by Kamuta Latasi.
