In August 2019 President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena awarded national honours to 70 individuals for distinguished services. The Vidya Jyothi ( si, විද්‍යාජෝති; ta, வித்யா ஜோதி, translit=Vityā Jōti) is a Sri Lankan national honour awarded "''for outstanding scientific and technological achievements''". It is the highest national honour for science in Sri Lanka for outstanding contribution to the development of the country through dedicated work in the chosen field. Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala
Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala ( si, ජයන්ති කුරු උතුම්පාල, born 3 September 1979) is a Sri Lankan adventurer, professional rock climber, motivational speaker, and LGBT and women's rights activist. She is the first person from Sri Lanka to summit Mount Everest which she achieved on 21 May 2016. Kuru-Utumpala is an advocate for Gender roles in Sri Lanka, women's rights in Sri Lanka and has spent most of her adult life researching gender studies and women's rights. She formed a collaboration with fellow mountaineer Johann Peries for several expeditions. Biography Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala was born on 3 September 1979 in Colombo. Palitha Perera (also known as Kuruppuge Palitha Chandrasiri Perera) is a well known cricket commentator and media personality in Sri Lanka. Early life and education Palitha who was born 3 September 1942 in Nugegoda received his education from Nalanda College, Colombo. Palitha also represented Nalanda for 32nd Ananda-Nalanda big match. Eric Illayapparachchi
Eric Illayapparachchi (born 16 December 1954) is a Sinhalese writer and poet. He wrote the libretto for '' Agni'', an opera composed by Premasiri Khemadasa which had its premiere on 26 May 2007 in Colombo. One of his short stories was made into a television drama for the series ''Vinividimi Adura'' (Through the Darkness) on Sri Lanka's ITN network.
