2019 South Gloucestershire Council Election
The 2019 South Gloucestershire Council election took place on 2 May 2019 to elect members of South Gloucestershire Council in England as part of nationwide local elections. A 2018 boundary change meant that the total number of seats in the council was reduced from 70 to 61. The Conservatives retained their control of the council, sliding from 40 seats to 33. The Liberal Democrats increased from 16 to 17 seats, and Labour lost three, going to 11. 2023 South Gloucestershire Council Election
The 2023 South Gloucestershire Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect members of South Gloucestershire Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections across England. The Conservatives lost control of the council to no overall control. A Liberal Democrat and Labour coalition subsequently formed to take control of the council. Overview Prior to the election the Conservatives had a majority on the council, holding 33 of the 61 seats. Their group leader Toby Savage, who had been leader of the council since 2018, chose not to stand for re-election. The Labour group leader Pat Rooney also chose not to stand for re-election. South Gloucestershire Council is the local authority of South Gloucestershire, England, covering an area to the north of the city of Bristol. 2019 United Kingdom Local Elections
Local elections in parts of the United Kingdom were held on Thursday 2 May 2019, with 248 English local councils, six directly elected mayors in England, and all 11 local councils in Northern Ireland being contested. A total of 8,886 councillors were elected: terms were up for 8,861 seats, but eight elections for a total of 14 seats were postponed due to the death of a candidate; there were also casual vacancies to be filled: 38 in England (including on nine councils with no other elections) and one on Dundee City Council in Scotland. With the exception of areas whose electoral cycle has temporarily changed (due to a boundary review) or permanently changed, or that have been reorganised, the seats up for election in England were last contested in the 2015 local elections, on the same day as the general election of that year. Louise Bloom
Louise Anne Harris (born 7 April 1964) is a Liberal Democrat politician who has served as a councillor on South Gloucestershire Council for Dodington since November 2018. As Louise Bloom, she was a member of the first London Assembly between 2000 and 2002, and councillor on Eastleigh Borough Council between 2002 and 2017. Political career She was an active member of the National League of Young Liberals as part of what was known as the Green Guard.
