The 2019 Scheldeprijs was the 107th edition of the Scheldeprijs road cycling one day race, held on 10 April 2019 as part of the 2019 UCI Europe Tour, as a 1.HC categorised race. Teams Twenty-one teams were invited to start the race. These included ten UCI WorldTeams and eleven UCI Professional Continental teams. 2019 UCI Europe Tour
The 2019 UCI Europe Tour was the fifteenth season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2019 season began on 31 January 2019 with the Vuelta a Mallorca, Trofeo Porreres, Felanitx, Ses Salines, Campos and ended on 20 October 2019. Throughout the season, points are awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. The quality and complexity of a race also determines how many points are awarded to the top finishers, the higher the UCI rating of a race, the more points are awarded. Jasper Philipsen (born 2 March 1998) is a Belgian professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . Career In July 2019, he was named in the startlist for the 2019 Tour de France. In October 2020, he was named in the startlist for the 2020 Vuelta a España, where he won stage 15. He participated in his second Tour de France in 2021 and while he did not win any stages he had many promising results including finishing on the stage podium a half dozen times. He rode in the 2021 Vuelta a España where he won two stages. He also wore the points classification jersey on several stages, being involved in a battle with Fabio Jakobsen for the jersey, before he decided it had been a successful race and chose to abandon about halfway through due to a mild fever. Marco Haller (born 1 April 1991) is an Austrian professional road bicycling racer, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Born in Sankt Veit an der Glan, Haller took his first win on the UCI World Tour, at the 2012 Tour of Beijing, in a mass sprint where he had the upper hand on established sprinters such as Alessandro Petacchi () and Elia Viviani (). In 2015, he was the surprise winner of the Tour des Fjords after featuring in the last stage's breakaway. Career Born in Malle, Boeckmans began competing as a professional in the second half of the 2009 season, competing for the team as a stagiaire. The UCI Continental Circuits are a series of road bicycle racing competitions which were introduced in 2005 by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to expand cycling around the world. Fabio Jakobsen (born 31 August 1996) is a Dutch cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career During the 2019 Vuelta a España Jakobsen won two stages, including the final stage of the race on stage 21 in Madrid. A few metres before the finish of the 1st stage in the 2020 Tour de Pologne he heavily crashed after Dylan Groenewegen deviated from his line, forcing Jakobsen into the barriers. The race doctor initially reported that Jakobsen had suffered several major injuries, including serious brain trauma and damage to the upper respiratory tract, a broken palate, and heavy blood loss, and was in life-threatening condition. On 7 August 2020, the race organisers announced that Jakobsen was out of the induced coma and in "good condition". On 18 August 2020, Jakobsen said that he was "glad to be alive" following the crash. Scheldeprijs
The Scheldeprijs is a cycling race in Flanders and the Netherlands which starts in Terneuzen, crosses the Scheldt River, and finishes in Schoten. Until 2018 it was held entirely in Belgium. The event, ranked as a 1.HC race on the UCI Europe Tour, features mostly sprinters on its roll of honour, as it is held on all-flat roads over roughly 200 kilometres. First held in 1907, it is the oldest still-existing cycling event in Flanders, notably six years older than the Tour of Flanders '' monument race''. The race had its only interruptions during both World Wars and celebrated its 100th edition in 2012. German sprinter Marcel Kittel holds the record with five wins. Since 2021, a women's edition of Scheldeprijs is held on the same day as the men's race, starting and finishing in Schoten, approximately 136 kilometres in distance.
