2019 San Diego Padres Season
The 2019 San Diego Padres season was the 51st season of the San Diego Padres franchise. The Padres played their home games at Petco Park as members of the Major League Baseball's National League West Division. On September 21, the Padres fired Andy Green as manager. Bench coach Rod Barajas was promoted to interim manager. The Padres hit a franchise record seven home runs in their 19–4 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 25. Though they improved on their record from the previous season, they still failed to qualify for the postseason for the thirteenth straight year. National League West
The National League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed for the 1969 season when the National League expanded to 12 teams by adding the San Diego Padres and the Montreal Expos. For purpose of keeping a regular-season of 162 games, half of the teams were put into the new National League East, East Division and half into the new West Division. Within each division, the teams played 18 games each against their five division mates (90 games), and also 12 games against the teams in the opposite division (72 games), totaling 162 games. Geography Despite the geography, the owners of the Chicago Cubs insisted that their team be placed into the East Division along with the teams in New York City, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Carlos Hernández (catcher)
Carlos Alberto Hernández Almeida r-NAN-dez(born May 24, 1967) is a Venezuelan former Major League Baseball catcher who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1990–1996), San Diego Padres (1997–2000) and St. Louis Cardinals (2000). Career Signed by the Dodgers as a free agent in 1984, Hernández became the second Venezuelan catcher in MLB history, following Bo Díaz. He made his major league debut in the 1990 season, basically as a backup for Mike Scioscia. A high skilled defensive player, Hernández spent his Dodgers career as mainly a back-up catcher to Scioscia and Mike Piazza, appearing in 230 games, including 133 starts. William Michael Smith (born July 10, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves, and Houston Astros. Nicholas Phillip Margevicius ( ; born June 18, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners. Career Amateur Margevicius attended Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
