2019 Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District Special Election
A special election was held on May 21, 2019, to fill the remainder of the term for in the United States House of Representatives for the 116th United States Congress. Tom Marino, a Republican, resigned from office effective January 23. Background As a result of the 2018 elections, Pennsylvania's House delegation to the 116th U.S. Congress took office in early January 2019 with a tie of 9 Republicans and 9 Democrats. Republican Tom Marino, the incumbent representative for , announced his resignation effective January 23, 2019. By state law, Governor Tom Wolf was required to call for a special election at least 60 days after the seat became vacant. Wolf set the election for May 21. Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District
Pennsylvania's 12th congressional district is located in southwestern Pennsylvania, which includes Pittsburgh and much of Allegheny County. It has been represented since January 3, 2023 by Summer Lee. Prior to 2018, the 12th district was located in southwestern Pennsylvania, and included all of Beaver County, and parts of Allegheny, Cambria, Lawrence, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Somerset, and Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Westmoreland Counties. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania redrew this and other state congressional districts in February 2018 after ruling the previous map unconstitutional due to partisan Gerrymandering in the United States, gerrymandering. Bradford County, Pennsylvania
Bradford County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, its population was 59,967. Its county seat is Towanda. The county was created on February 21, 1810, from parts of Lycoming and Luzerne Counties. Originally called Ontario County, it was reorganized and separated from Lycoming County on October 13, 1812, and renamed Bradford County for William Bradford, who had been a chief justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and United States Attorney General. Bradford County comprises the Sayre, Pennsylvania micropolitan statistical area. The Pennsylvania Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is headquartered in Harrisburg and is the largest political party in the state. Eugene Yaw
E. Eugene Yaw (born February 26, 1943) is an American politician from Pennsylvania currently serving as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania State Senate for the 23rd district since 2009. Early life and education Yaw was born to Emerson A. and Harriet Yaw. He graduated from Montoursville High School and attended Bucknell University from 1961 to 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1968 and graduated from the United States Army Field Artillery School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged as first lieutenant after an overseas tour of duty as an artillery officer. He graduated from Lycoming College with a B.A. in 1970 and received a J.D. degree from American University in 1973. Mario Scavello (born May 9, 1952) is a Republican member of the Pennsylvania State Senate representing the 40th district. Prior to his election to the State Senate in 2014, he served as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives representing the 176th Legislative District of Pennsylvania.
