The 2019 New Mexico United season is the inaugural season for New Mexico United in the USL Championship, the second-tier professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. New Mexico United
New Mexico United is an American professional soccer team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 2018, the team currently plays in the USL Championship, the second division of American soccer. History Former teams The state of New Mexico gained its first professional soccer team in the 1990s, the New Mexico Chiles of the American Professional Soccer League and later the USISL. The team was runner-up for the league title in 1995 and attracted an average home attendance of 3,854, but was folded by its owners in 1996. The Chiles was replaced the following season by the Albuquerque Geckos, who entered USISL's Division 3 with new owners and played at a new soccer stadium shared with the collegiate New Mexico Lobos. The Geckos won the Division 3 championship and were promoted to the second division A-League in 1998, but struggled to win matches and were unable to pay players and creditors. Santiago "Santi" Moar Sánchez (born 5 September 1993) is a Spanish footballer who plays as a forward for New Mexico United in the USL Championship. Moar is most frequently utilized as a left winger. Playing career Youth and college Moar played three years of college soccer at Pfeiffer University between 2014 and 2016, including a redshirted year in 2014. He made a total of 45 appearances, scoring 24 goals in his time at Pfeiffer. While at college, Moar also appeared for Premier Development League side Charlotte Eagles in 2016. Club Bethlehem Steel FC On 17 January 2017, Moar was selected in the fourth round (82nd overall) in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Philadelphia Union. Antonio Soler Mulet (born 23 March 1992) is a Spanish footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder. Playing career Youth and college After playing with the Villarreal academy and having various spells in the lower leagues in Spain, Soler moved to the United States in 2015 to play college soccer at Adelphi University. He moved to the University of Tampa in 2018 for his senior year. While at college, Soler also appeared for Premier Development League side South Georgia Tormenta. Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium
Kino Sports Complex is a multiple-use sports complex in Tucson, Arizona. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox formerly utilized the complex's main ballpark, Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, for Cactus League games each March and had their minor league complexes on-site. The ballpark was also home to the Tucson Sidewinders of the Pacific Coast League for the team's last decade in Tucson, running from the stadium's 1998 opening season to the 2008 season. The ballpark was a temporary home (2011–2013) to the Tucson Padres (formerly the Portland Beavers) of the Pacific Coast League during the team's relocation to El Paso, Texas. Kevaughn Frater (born 14 December 1994) is a Jamaican footballer who plays as a forward for USL Championship club New Mexico United. Club career Frater was part of the Harbour View squad since he was sixteen years old, before signing on loan with United Soccer League side Real Monarchs SLC in January 2016. On January 26th 2017, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced Frater would be joining the team for a season long loan. Early career The son of Diana and Greg Sandoval and native of Albuquerque, Sandoval attended Eldorado High School in New Mexico, where he played soccer.
