2019 Mid Ulster District Council Election
The 2019 Mid Ulster District Council election took place on 2 May 2019 to elect members of Mid Ulster District Council in Northern Ireland. This was on the same day as other local elections. Michelle O'Neill (née Doris; born 10 January 1977) is an Irish politician who served as deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland between 2020 and 2022. She has been serving as Vice President of Sinn Féin since 2018 and is the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Mid Ulster since 2007. O'Neill served on the Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council from 2005 to 2011. She served as the first female Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone from 2010 to 2011. In 2007, she was elected to represent Mid Ulster in the Northern Ireland Assembly. Ian McCrea
Ian McCrea (born 12 June 1976) is a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland, representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He was elected in 2007 as a Northern Ireland Assembly member for Mid Ulster, and lost his seat in the 2016 Assembly election. Born in Magherafelt in 1976, he now lives in Cookstown with his wife and three children. McCrea is the son of Lord McCrea of Magherafelt and Cookstown. McCrea was elected to Cookstown District Council in 2001, held the position of chairman of the Council in 2007–08 and is a member of Cookstown District Policing Partnership. A former member of the Young Democrats, McCrea is now chairman of the Cookstown DUP Branch, and of the party's Local Government Association, also in Cookstown. A member of the Apprentice Boys of Derry, he also acts as chairman of Coagh United Supporters Club. Ian Milne
Ian Milne (born 8 April 1954) is an Irish republican politician from Northern Ireland. Background Born in Bellaghy, County Londonderry, Milne joined the Official Irish Republican Army-linked Fianna Éireann youth group soon after its formation, but the following year moved to join the Provisional IRA. He was gaoled in 1971, after explosives went off in a car in which he was travelling. He was imprisoned in the Crumlin Road Jail, but escaped in January 1973. The following year, he was arrested in the Republic of Ireland after stealing a Garda car, and was sentenced to five years in Portlaoise Prison. 2019 Northern Ireland Local Elections
Local elections were held in Northern Ireland on Thursday 2 May 2019. The last elections were held in 2014. 819 candidates contested 462 seats across Northern Ireland's 11 local government districts. 1,305,384 people aged 18 and over were eligible to vote, and 52.7% of the electorate turned out. Electoral system Northern Ireland uses the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system to elect members of local councils and members of the Northern Ireland Assembly. Voters rank candidates in order of preference by marking 1, 2, 3, ''etc.'' to the names of candidates on a ballot paper and can rank as many or as few candidates as they like or just vote for one candidate. These were the second elections held on new boundaries, introduced in 2014. These were the first Northern Ireland elections at which people have been able to register to vote online.
