2019 Malabon Local Elections
Local elections were held in Malabon on May 13, 2019 as part of the Philippine general election. Several local posts in the city were on the ballot, including the mayor, vice mayor, the two Congressmen, and the twelve councilors for the city's two Sangguniang Panglungsod districts (six for each district). Background Mayor Antolin Oreta III ran for re-election for his third and final term. He was challenged by Vice Mayor Jeannie Ng-Sandoval. Vice Mayor Jeannie Ng-Sandoval was on her second term. Although eligible to run for third consecutive term, she ran as mayor instead. Her party chosen Councilor Maricar Torres. Torres was challenged by her fellow councilor Bernard "Ninong" Dela Cruz, Oreta's running mate. Rep. Antolin Oreta III
Antolin Aquino Oreta III (born September 16, 1971), better known as Lenlen Oreta, is a Filipino politician who has served as the Mayor of Malabon from 2012 to 2022 and formerly served as Vice Mayor from 2010 up until his appointment as mayor. He is the son of former Senator Tessie Aquino-Oreta. Background Oreta was born on September 16, 1971, as the second of the four children of businessman Antolin M. Jeannie Sandoval
Jeannie L. Ng Sandoval (born January 14, 1978) is a Filipino politician who is currently serving as the Mayor of Malabon since 2022. She previously served as Vice Mayor of Malabon from 2013 to 2019. Early life She finished her elementary and secondary education and her bachelor's degree in Computer Science from De La Salle University. Political career In 2004, she ran for Mayor under the Liberal Party, but lost to then-ABC President Canuto Senen "Tito" Oreta. Malabon
Malabon, officially the City of Malabon ( fil, Lungsod ng Malabon), is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region of the Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 380,522 people. Located just north of the city of Manila, it is primarily a residential and industrial area, and is one of the most densely populated cities in the metropolis. It has a total land area of 15.96 square kilometers. The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is the local legislature, legislative body of a Philippine city, city governments in the Philippines. Local elections in the Philippines were held on May 13, 2019. This was conducted together with the 2019 general election for national positions. All elected positions above the barangay (village) level were disputed. The following positions were disputed: * 81 provincial governorships and vice-governorships * 780 Provincial Board (Sangguniang Panlalawigan) members * 1,634 mayorships and vice mayorships * 13,544 city and municipal councilors (Sangguniang Panlungsod and Sangguniang Bayan) The elective positions in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) were not decided on this day.
