, Safaa Al Sarai Safaa Al Sarai ( ar, صفاء السراي; 28 June 1993 – 28 October 2019) was an Iraqi human rights activist who has been called the icon of the Iraqi uprising. Background He was born into a family from Baghdad that lived in the Sha'ab neighborhood. He graduated from high school to enroll in the Technological University, and during his school years he worked as a porter in a market in the Jamila commercial district. His father died early in his life, then his mother died from cancer in 2017. He later graduated as a programmer from the department of computer science at the University of Technology. After graduating, he worked in writing petitions in front of one of the buildings of the Traffic Directorates. Qays Abd al-Hussein al-Yasiri ( ar, قيس عبد الحسين الياسري, translit=Qays ʻAbd al-Ḥusayn al-Yāsirī;1941 – 26 May 2019) was an Iraqi media historian, academic and poet, best known for his studies on early Iraqi mass media. He graduated from the universities of Baghdad in 1972, Cairo in 1976 and Warsaw in 1986. In his professional career, he moved between several jobs, as he worked as journalist, media official and assistant professor. His only poetry collection published in 1970. He left several books about media and wrote various essays. Al-Yasiri died at the age of 78 in Baghdad. Kochavi Shemesh (sometimes spelled "Kohavi", ; 10 January 1944 – 13 May 2019) was a lawyer, leftist activist, and one of the leaders of the Israeli Black Panthers and the editor of its main publication ''Ha'panter Ha'shachor'' (). He also helped form the Israeli political party Hadash, which formed as a merger between the Black Panthers, the Israeli Communist Party, and other leftist organizations. George Hanna or Hanna Jurgis (13 May 1928 – 3 May 2019), later known as John Hanna Hallaq, was an Iraqi basketball player. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1948 Summer Olympics.
