2019 Hawaii Bowl
The 2019 Hawaii Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 24, 2019, with kickoff at 8:00 p.m. EST (3:00 p.m. local HST) on ESPN. It was the 18th edition of the Hawaii Bowl, and was one of the 2019–20 bowl games concluding the 2019 FBS football season. Sponsored by the SoFi personal finance company, the game was officially known as the SoFi Hawaii Bowl. Teams The game was played between Hawaii of the Mountain West Conference, and BYU, an FBS independent. This was the 32nd meeting in this rivalry that dates back to 1930, and first in the postseason. Both teams were previously members of the Western Athletic Conference; BYU from 1962 to 1998, and Hawaii from 1979 to 2011. BYU led the rivalry series, 23–8. Aloha Stadium
Aloha Stadium is a closed multi-purpose stadium located in Halawa, Hawaii, a western suburb of Honolulu (though with a Honolulu address). Trevor Matich
Trevor Anthony Matich (born October 9, 1961) is an American football analyst and former center in the National Football League from 1985 through 1996. Early years Matich grew up in Sacramento, California. He did not become starter on his high school football team until he was a senior. College career Matich played college football at Brigham Young University where he was a two-time all-conference offensive lineman in the Western Athletic Conference. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he went on a mission to Torreón in Mexico after his second season at BYU. After returning, he helped the team win the 1984 NCAA football championship as their starting center. The 2019 San Diego State Aztecs football team represented San Diego State University in the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Aztecs were led by ninth year head coach Rocky Long and played their final home games at SDCCU Stadium. San Diego State competed as a member of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division. Western Athletic Conference
The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington (state), Washington, and Texas. Due to most of the conference's College football, football-playing members leaving the WAC for other affiliations, the conference discontinued football as a sponsored sport after the 2012–13 season and left the NCAA's NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A). The BYU Cougars football team is the college football program representing Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. The Cougars began collegiate football competition in 1922, and have won 23 conference championships and one national championship in 1984. The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football team represents the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in NCAA Division I FBS college football. It was part of the Western Athletic Conference until July 2012, when the team joined the Mountain West Conference. The 2019–20 NCAA football games were a series of college football bowl games played to complete the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The games began on December 20, 2019, and, aside from the all-star games that followed, ended with the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship played on January 13, 2020. The Hawaiʻi Bowl is a college football bowl game that has been played in the Honolulu, Hawaii area since 2002. The game was originally held at Aloha Stadium in Halawa, Hawaii, a suburb of Honolulu, before moving to the Clarence T. C. Ching Athletics Complex in 2022. The bowl is one of the post-season contests run by ESPN Events. Typically played on or near Christmas Eve, the bowl normally features a team from the Mountain West Conference, playing a team from either the American Athletic Conference or Conference USA. The Hawaii–Aleutian Time Zone observes Hawaii–Aleutian Standard Time (HST) by subtracting ten hours from Coordinated Universal Time ( UTC−10:00).
