2019 Gasparilla Bowl
The 2019 Gasparilla Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 23, 2019, with kickoff at 2:30 p.m. EST on ESPN. It was the 12th edition of the Gasparilla Bowl, although only the third under that name, and one of the 2019–20 bowl games concluding the 2019 FBS football season. Sponsored by lawn mower manufacturing company Bad Boy Mowers, the game was officially known as the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. Teams The game matched the UCF Knights of the American Athletic Conference (The American) and the Marshall Thundering Herd of Conference USA (C–USA). It was the fourth appearance in the Gasparilla Bowl for both teams (although their first Gasparilla Bowl against each other), leading all teams in Gasparilla Bowl appearances. Raymond James Stadium
Raymond James Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Tampa, Florida that opened in 1998 and is home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL) and the University of South Florida (USF) Bulls college football program. The seating capacity for most sporting events is 69,218, though it can be expanded to about 75,000 for special events with the addition of temporary seating. Gasparilla Bowl
The Gasparilla Bowl is an annual NCAA-sanctioned post-season college football bowl game played in the Tampa Bay area. It was first played in 2008 as the St. Petersburg Bowl at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The game was renamed the Gasparilla Bowl in 2017 as a nod to the legend of José Gaspar, a mythical pirate who supposedly operated in the Tampa Bay area and who is the inspiration for Tampa's Gasparilla Pirate Festival. In May 2018, the owners announced the bowl would be relocated to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Since 2020, it has been sponsored by Union Home Mortgage and officially known as the ''Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl''. From 2010 to 2013 when Beef O'Brady's was the title sponsor, the game was officially known as simply the ''Beef O'Brady's Bowl''. Justin Rohrwasser (born December 7, 1996) is an American former professional football placekicker. He played college football at Marshall, and was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. College career Rohrwasser played the first two years of his college career at the University of Rhode Island before transferring to Marshall University. At Rhode Island, he made 75% of his field goal attempts and 98% of his extra point attempts. In 2019, in his redshirt senior season with Marshall, he made 85.7% of his kicks with a long of 53 yards. Professional career The New England Patriots selected Rohrwasser in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 159th overall pick. The move came a few weeks after they released kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who had been the Patriots kicker since 2006. Richie Grant (born November 9, 1997) is an American football safety for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at UCF, and was drafted by the Falcons in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Early life and high school Grant was born and lived in Lumberton, Mississippi, until moving to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, when he was nine years old.
