2019 Gagarin Cup Playoffs
The 2019 Gagarin Cup playoffs of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) began on 25 February 2019, with the top eight teams from each of the conferences, following the conclusion of the 2018–19 KHL regular season. The playoffs ended on 19 April 2019, when Continental Cup winners CSKA Moscow became the first team to win the Gagarin Cup finals in a series sweep, defeating Avangard Omsk in four games to win their first Gagarin Cup, after two previous Finals defeats. Playoff seeds After the regular season, the standard 16 teams qualified for the playoffs. Western Conference The regular season winners and Continental Cup winners were CSKA Moscow with 106 points. Eastern Conference Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg were the Eastern Conference regular season winners with 95 points. Hockey Club Vityaz (, en, HC Knight) is a professional ice hockey team based in Podolsk, Moscow Oblast, Russia. They are members of the Bobrov Division of the Kontinental Hockey League. Dan Sexton (born April 29, 1987) is an American former professional ice hockey winger. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Anaheim Ducks. Playing career Dan Sexton played for Bowling Green State University from 2007–2009, playing 76 games and recording 24 goals and 60 points in his NCAA career. Sexton, an undrafted free agent, left college when he was signed by the Anaheim Ducks on April 7, 2009. After beginning the 2009–10 season in the minors with the Bakersfield Condors in the ECHL, he was called up to the Ducks and played his first NHL game against the Minnesota Wild on December 4, 2009. Nigel Alexander Dawes (born February 9, 1985) is a Canadian- Kazakhstani professional ice-hockey winger for Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He has played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New York Rangers, Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers, Montreal Canadiens. Traktor Ice Arena named after Valery Konsantinovich Belousov (), commonly shortened to Traktor Ice Arena, is an indoor sporting arena located in Chelyabinsk, Russia. It is used for various indoor events and is the home arena of Traktor Chelyabinsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Belye Medvedi of Junior Hockey League (MHL). The capacity of the arena is 7,500 spectators. It replaced Yunost Sport Palace as the home of Traktor. The arena is named after former Traktor head coach Valery Belousov. Construction The arena was designed by a Swedish company Skanska. Construction began in spring 2007 and was originally expected to finish by the 2008-09 season. But due to subsequent construction problems the official opening was rescheduled for January 2009.
