Rotsee
__NOTOC__ The Rotsee (previously known as Rootsee) is a natural rowing lake on the northern edge of Lucerne, Switzerland. It is regarded as one of the best rowing venues in the world. Description and location The lake and its surrounding area is used for local recreation. All of the lake frontage is a protected area. The lake formed through glacial processes and it is thought that the river Reuss flowed through this valley in between ice ages. There is no notable inflow and virtually no current. Nearby hills protect the lake from wind. It is long. These factors make it an ideal rowing venue and German-speaking rower refer to it as ''Göttersee'', which translates as "lake of the gods". The expression was coined at the 1962 World Rowing Championships by a Japanese rowing official. The Zug–Lucerne railway is located north of the lake. Felix Wimberger (born 28 February 1990) is a German former representative rower. He is an Olympian, was a two time senior world champion in the German men's eight - the Deutschlandachter, and a two time underage world champion. He competed in the men's coxless four event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He rowed in the two seat when the Deutschlandachter at the 2017 World Rowing Cup II set a world's best time of 5.18.68, which was still the standing world mark as of 2021. International rowing career Wimberger's representative debut for Germany came in 2008 when he was selected in the German junior men's eight which won gold and a world junior title at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Ottensheim. Sholto Carnegie
Sholto Carnegie (born 28 February 1995) is a British representative rower. He is an Olympian and a two-time world champion in the Great Britain men's eight. University and club rowing Raised in Oxford and educated at Cherwell School, Carnegie took up rowing aged 13 at the City of Oxford Rowing Club. Ahead of the Henley Royal Regatta of 2013 Carnegie made a switch from the City of Oxford RC to the Marlow Rowing Club with whom he won the Fawley Challenge Cup that year. By 2014 he had moved again to the Leander Club and at Henley in 2014 he won the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup in a Leander quad scull. Carnegie attended Yale University from 2014 to 2018 where he qualified for a B. Economics. Rory Gibbs (born 3 April 1994) is a British representative rower - an Olympian and a two-time world champion. He won the 2022 and 2023 world championship titles in the British men's eight. Between 2016 and 2023 he rowed in victorious crews across six events at the Henley Royal Regatta. University rowing Gibbs took up rowing after picking up injuries playing rugby. Matthew Rossiter
Matthew Rossiter (born 25 September 1989) is a British international rower. He is an Olympian and has won medals at World Rowing Championships. Profile Rossiter was educated at Abingdon School and gained colours for the Abingdon School Boat Club. In 2008 he finished fifth in the Under-23 eights at the Junior World Championships. He continued his rowing as a student at Durham University. His younger brother George Rossiter is a World Under 23 Championship medallist and World University Champion. Oliver Robert George Cook (born 5 June 1990) is a British international Rowing (sport), rower. He is a world champion and an Olympian. Profile Whilst in education at Abingdon School he gained colours for the Abingdon School Boat Club eights. In 2007 he rowed across the English Channel to raise money for charity. After leaving Abingdon in 2008 he attended the London School of Economics, where he studied International Relations and History. In 2011 Ollie was part of the Row Zambezi Expedition. It was the first time anyone had rowed the 1,000 km of the Upper Zambezi, starting from near its source on the Angolan/Zambian border to Victoria Falls in Zambia.
