2019 European Parliament Election In Slovakia
Elections in Slovakia for the 2019 European Parliament election took place on 25 May 2019. Thirty-one parties featured on the electoral list. The election was won by alliance of Progressive Slovakia and TOGETHER - Civic Democracy. It was the first election since 2006 that was won by some other party than Direction – Social Democracy. Alojz Hlina
Alojz Hlina (born 22 October 1970) is a Slovak businessman and politician. He is an independent member of National Council elected through SASKA list. Hlina was also a member from 2012 to 2014 independent from OL'aNO list and was chairman of KDH from 2016 to 2020. Early life and education Hlina began studying at Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. After the Velvet Revolution, he became the first manager of the Slovak University Union. Hlina later engaged in business in the field of gastronomy. Christian Democratic Movement
The Christian Democratic Movement ( sk, Kresťanskodemokratické hnutie, KDH) is a Christian-democratic political party in Slovakia that is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and an observer of the Centrist Democrat International. History The party was established in 1990. In the 1990s it was led by Ján Čarnogurský and then since 2000 by Pavol Hrušovský. Before the 2016 elections, it was led by Ján Figeľ. Following the defeat in the elections, Figeľ stepped down from the position and Pavol Zajac became temporary leader until the decisive party meeting on 19 March 2016. Figeľ endorsed Milan Majerský, mayor of Levoča, for the position. Robert Fico
Robert Fico (; born 15 September 1964) is a Slovak politician who served as the prime minister of Slovakia from 2006 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2018 (when he resigned). He has been the first leader of the Direction – Social Democracy (SMER-SD) party since 1999. Miroslav Beblavý
Miroslav Beblavý (born 6 January 1977 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak investor, economist, author and former politician. Between 2010 and 2020, he served three terms as an MP of the National Council of Slovakia. Between 2002 and 2006, he held the post of State Secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family. He was also the chairman of the Together – Civic Democracy party in the 2018-2020 period, co-leading the unsuccessful election coalition with Progressive Slovakia in the 2020 Slovak parliamentary election.
