2019 European Combined Events Team Championships
The 2019 European Combined Events Team Championships was the 34th edition of the biennial international team track and field competition for European combined track and field events specialists, with contests in men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. Held over 6–7 July, it consisted of three divisions: Super League, 1st League, and 2nd League. The Super League events were held at Avanhard Stadium in Lutsk, Ukraine, while the lower divisions were held at the Centro Desportivo da Madeira in Ribeira Brava, Portugal. National teams were ranked on the combined points totals of their best three athletes in both men's and women's competitions. Estonia won the Super League competition, led by Maicel Uibo and Mari Klaup-McColl. The Czech Republic and Finland took first and second in the 1st League to gain promotion to the Super League. The European Athletic Association (more commonly known as European Athletics) is the governing body for athletics in Europe. It is one of the six Area Associations of the world's athletics governing body World Athletics. European Athletics has 51 members and is headquartered in Lausanne. Originally created in 1932 as a European Committee, it was made into an independent body during the Bucharest conference of 1969. The first European Athletics congress took place in Paris on 6–8 October 1970, with Dutchman Adriaan Paulen elected as its first president. Andrei Sergeyevich Krauchanka ( be, Андрэй Сяргеевіч Краўчанка; also transliterated as ''Andrey Kravchenko'') (born 4 January 1986) is a Belarusian decathlete. He was the silver medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His personal best score of 8617 points is the Belarusian record for the event. He also holds the national indoor record in the heptathlon with 6282 points. Krauchanka was a talented combined events athlete from a young age: he broke the world youth best for the octathlon and was runner-up at the 2003 World Youth Championships in Athletics. He became the European and World Junior champion in the decathlon before emerging as a senior in 2007, when he won the bronze medal at the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships and set his best of 8617 to win the Hypo-Meeting. Andrew Ray-Jamie Murphy (born 18 December 1969 in Melbourne, Victoria) is an Australian former triple jumper, best known for his bronze medal at the 2001 World Indoor Championships where he achieved an Oceanian indoor record of 17.20 metres. His personal best is 17.32 metres, achieved at the 1999 World Championships in Seville. This ranks him second among Australian triple jumpers, only behind Ken Lorraway His coach was Keith Connor.
