2019 Dengue Outbreak In Pakistan
In Pakistan, in the summer of 2019, more than 47 people have died and more than 30,000 have been infected by Dengue fever. In October, Prime Minister Imran Khan took notice of the dengue outbreak in the country and sought report from the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Zafar Mirza. On 10 October 2019, a Peshawar High Court bench sent summons to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's provincial health secretary to explain the situation related to dengue outbreak in parts of the province. As of November 2019, record 44,000 cases were reported in the country with 67 deaths. In December the death toll risen to 91 with total number of cases on 52,485. Dengue Fever
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms typically begin three to fourteen days after infection. These may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin itching and skin rash. Recovery generally takes two to seven days. In a small proportion of cases, the disease develops into a more severe dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome, where dangerously low blood pressure occurs. Dengue is spread by several species of female mosquitoes of the ''Aedes'' genus, principally ''Aedes aegypti''. The virus has five serotypes; infection with one type usually gives lifelong immunity to that type, but only short-term immunity to the others. 2011 Dengue Outbreak In Pakistan
Dengue fever is an important infectious disease in Pakistan with increasingly frequent epidemics. Despite the efforts of the Government of Pakistan, especially in Punjab, the high cost of prevention has limited the ability of Pakistan to control epidemics. In Pakistan, in the summer of 2011, more than 300 people died of Dengue fever. The prevalence of the disease was over 14,000. The outbreaks occurred mostly in the Lahore area, Punjab, Pakistan. 2011 epidemic Morbidity and mortality In November 2010, more than 21,204 people were diagnosed with dengue fever. Those infected were mainly from Punjab, Pakistan. Patients were admitted to dedicated wards in government hospitals. The severity of the epidemic was greatest in Lahore. 2017 Dengue Outbreak In Peshawar
In the 2017 dengue outbreak in Peshawar, Pakistan, hundreds of incidents of dengue fever were reported in Peshawar in mid-2017. Initially, according to the health department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4,320 suspected cases were received by Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar and 831 were positive. About a dozen people died of dengue, starting in July. Punjab healthcare experts and Peshawar experts worked together to control the dengue epidemic, using health workers going door-to-door to educate residents, as well as fumigation of the city to suppress mosquito populations. In November 2017, the World Health Organization reported a total of 24,807 laboratory confirmed cases with 69 deaths.
