2019 CPL–U Sports Draft
The 2019 CPL–U Sports Draft was the second annual CPL–U Sports Draft. It was held on November 11, 2019 in Montreal, Quebec. Seven Canadian Premier League (CPL) teams selected 14 eligible U Sports athletes in total. Format Each CPL team will make two selection in the U Sports Draft. Players can be selected if they have years of U Sports eligibility remaining and have declared for the draft. For the non-finalist teams, the CPL combined standings were used to determine the order for the first round, with last-placed HFX Wanderers FC selecting first. Finals runner-up Cavalry FC selected sixth, while champions Forge FC selected seventh. A "snake draft" was used, with the order reversing in the second round. Association Football
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. Pacific FC
Pacific Football Club is a Canadian professional soccer club based in Greater Victoria, British Columbia. The club competes in the Canadian Premier League, playing home matches at Starlight Stadium located in Langford. History On May 5, 2018, "Port City FC" was one of four groups accepted by the Canadian Soccer Association for professional club membership, along with groups that would become Cavalry FC, HFX Wanderers, and York9. Port City was the only one of the four that was not identified with a specific city, and represented an as-of-yet undetermined location in British Columbia. The group was expected to launch a team in either Greater Victoria or Surrey, British Columbia. Thomas Gardner (soccer)
Thomas Gardner (born March 17, 1998) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder. Club career Whitecaps FC 2 Gardner signed with Whitecaps FC 2 on August 26, 2015. He made his professional debut 11 days later against Sacramento Republic FC. Gardner, along with fellow Whitecaps Academy products Matthew Baldisimo and Kadin Chung were praised during the club's USL playoff run in the 2016 USL season. In December 2016, Whitecaps FC 2 announced that Gardner would return to the club for the 2017 season. He played three seasons with Whitecaps FC 2 before the club ceased operations after the 2017 season. Isaiah Johnston
Isaiah Johnston (born December 16, 2001) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Huntsville City in MLS Next Pro. Early life Johnston was born in Mississauga, before moving to Georgetown, when he was one year old. There, he began playing soccer at age six with Georgetown SC. At age thirteen, he and his family moved to Milton, where he played for Milton YSC. In 2017, he was named to the U18 Team Ontario for the 2017 Canada Summer Games. Mount Royal Cougars
The Mount Royal Cougars are the men's and women's athletic teams that represent Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Cougars field eight varsity teams with four men's teams and four women's teams that compete in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association of U Sports. The Cougars were previously members of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference of the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association prior to the move to CIS (since renamed U Sports) in 2012. Varsity teams Men's basketball The Cougars men's basketball program has yielded two national championship teams as members of the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association, winning in 1979 and in 2009. The Guelph Gryphons are the athletic teams that represent the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The university's varsity teams compete in the Ontario University Athletics conference of the U Sports(OUA's), and, where applicable, in the west division. UQTR Patriotes
The UQTR Patriotes are the athletic teams that represent the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada. The university features teams in swimming, golf, hockey, soccer, cross-country, volleyball and cheerleading. Notably, the men's ice hockey team has won four University Cup national championships since the program was first established in 1969. Gabriel Wiethaeuper-Balbinotti (born April 12, 1998) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays for AS Blainville in Ligue1 Quebec. Early life Born in Montreal, Quebec to Brazilian parents, Balbinotti spent the early years of his childhood in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where he attended Pan American School. Gabriel Walid Bitar (; born August 23, 1998) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder or forward for Canadian club Vancouver FC. Born in Canada, he plays for the Lebanon national team. Carleton Ravens
The Carleton Ravens are the athletic teams that represent Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. The most notable sports team for Carleton is the men's basketball team. In men's basketball, the Ravens have won 16 of the last 19 national men's championships, which is more than any top division college in Canada or the United States. The Ravens went on an 87-game winning streak from 2003 to 2006. They also had a 54-game home winning streak. The Ravens finished 2nd in the World University Basketball Championships in 2004. Stefan Karajovanovic (born April 16, 1999) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a forward for New Zealand club Napier City Rovers in the Central League.
