2019 Benue Gubernatorial Election
The 2019 Benue State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. Incumbent PDP Governor Samuel Ortom won re-election for a second term, defeating APC Emmanuel Jime and several minor party candidates. Samuel Ortom emerged PDP gubernatorial candidate after scoring 2,210 votes and defeating his closest rival, John Tondo, who received 475 votes. He picked Benson Abounu as his running mate. Emmanuel Jime was the APC candidate with Samuel Ode as his running mate. 33 candidates contested in the election. Samuel Ortom
Samuel Ioraer Ortom (; born 23 April 1961) is a Nigerian politician, businessman, administrator and philanthropist. He was a Minister of State Trade and Investments in Nigeria during the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan. Ortom was elected governor of Benue State as a member of the All Progressives Congress in 2015. He was re-elected as governor on 29 May 2019. Background and education Ortom was born 23 April 1961 in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria. He attended St. John's Primary School, Gboko in 1970 but moved to St. Catherine's Primary School, Makurdi in 1974, completing his primary education in 1976. Otukpo
Otukpo is a town in Benue State, Nigeria located in the Middle Belt Region of Nigeria. It is also the eponymous name of a subgroup of the Idoma people. Otukpo is the headquarters of the Otukpo Local Government Area. It was the headquarters of the former Idoma Province, and remains an important town in Idomaland, an area mainly populated by the Idoma speaking people, though with numerous local dialects spoken in the diverse reaches of Idoma land. Konshisha
Konshisha is a local government area of Benue State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Tse-Agberagba. It has an area of 1,673 km and a population of 225,672 at the 2006 census. The area is majorly populated by members of the Tiv ethnic group. The Tiv language is widely spoken in the area while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in the area. Vandeikya
Vandeikya is a local government area in Nigeria. Vandeikya Local Government Council is located between latitude 7°5' and 7°15' north of the Equator and Longitude 9° and 9°6' east of Greenwich. It has a landmass of 183,939 square metres (0.7 sq miles) with a population of well over 80,288. Vandeikya is in the South Eastern part of Benue State and shares boundaries with Obudu and Bekwara in Cross River State to the East, Ushongo to the North and Konshisha LGA to the West. Kwande
Kwande is a Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Adikpo. Kwande has an area of 2,891 km and a population of 248,697 at the 2006 Census.is bordered by several other LGAs. On the west, it is bordered by Vandeikya Local Government, Ushongo LGA on the north, and Katsina-Ala LGA on the northwest. Buruku is a Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Buruku. It has an area of 1,246 km2 and a population of 203,721 at the 2006 census.
