2019 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Super-G
The women's super-G in the 2019 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved 6 events, including the finals in Soldeu, Andorra. Originally, the season had been planned to hold 8 events, but the two races scheduled in Sochi, Russia were cancelled due to continuing heavy snowfall. Mikaela Shiffrin from the United States generally specialized in the technical disciplines (slalom and giant slalom), not in the speed disciplines (downhill and super-G), but she jumped out to an early lead in Super-G by winning both of the first two races. Ultimately, Shiffrin only entered four of the six races held in the discipline (and had not entered the two cancelled races planned for Sochi), but her results in the completed races – 3 victories and a tie for fourth – were sufficient to win the discipline crystal globe for the season over two-time defending champion Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein (who needed to win the finals but did not finish). Super-G
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom. It debuted as an official World Cup event during the 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the World Championships in 1987 and the Winter Olympics in 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through. The course is set so that skiers must turn more than in downhill, though the speeds are still much higher than in giant slalom (hence the name). Each athlete only has one run to clock the best time. In the Olympics, super-G courses are usually set on the same slopes as the downhill, but with a lower starting point. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2019
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2019 were held from 4 to 17 February 2019 in Åre, Sweden. The host city was selected at the FIS Congress in Barcelona, Spain, on 5 June 2014. The only other applicant was Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, which later gained the 2021 championships. Lara Gut-Behrami
Lara Gut-Behrami (; ; born 27 April 1991) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer who competes in all disciplines and specializes in the speed events of downhill and super-G. She won the gold medal in the Super-G event at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Career Gut was born in Sorengo, Canton Ticino; her father, Pauli Gut, is Swiss from Airolo, and her mother, Gabriella Almici, a masseuse, was born in Zone, Lombardy. Ragnhild Mowinckel (born 12 September 1992) is a Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer, representing the club SK Rival. Career Born in Molde, Møre og Romsdal, Mowinckel won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships in 2012 in the giant slalom and super combined as well as bronze in super-G. Earlier that season in January, she made her World Cup debut in a slalom race at Zagreb. Mowinckel collected her first World Cup points with a 25th place in giant slalom in Schladming in March. At St. Moritz in December 2012, she improved to 16th place in the super combined and 19th in the super-G. Garmisch Classic is an alpine ski area in the Bavarian Alps of southern Germany, near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria. Its maximum elevation is above sea level at Osterfelderkopf, with a vertical drop of . Other peaks of ski area are the Kreuzjoch at and Kreuzeck at . Val Gardena (; german: Gröden ; lld, Gherdëina ) is a valley in Northern Italy, in the Dolomites of South Tyrol. It is best known as a tourist skiing, rock climbing, and woodcarving area. Geography The valley's main river is the Derjon, a tributary of the Eisack river.
