2019 African Badminton Championships
The 2019 African Badminton Championships was the continental badminton championships to crown the best players and teams across Africa. The tournament was held at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Centre in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, from 22–28 April. Medalists In November 2019, Badminton World Federation released a statement regarding doping test failure of Kate Foo Kune in this championships and decided to disqualify her result. Medal table Tournament The 2019 African Badminton Championships were held in two separate events. The team event, officially All Africa Mixed Team Championships 2019, was a continental tournament to crown the best team in Africa holding from 22–25 April. The individual event, officially All Africa Individual Championships 2019, was a continental tournament to crown the best players in Africa holding from 26–28 April. Christopher Paul (aka Paul Kenyatta Laws, Abdulmalek Kenyatta) is an American al-Qaeda militant, who has pleaded guilty to acts of terrorism. He is currently serving a 15-year prison term arising from those charges. Early life Born Paul Kenyatta Laws, he changed his name to Alex Karagezyan in 1989, but then to Christopher Paul in 1994. Additional names have included Abdul Malek. Paul is an American citizen, resident of the Columbus, Ohio, area, where he was born. He grew up in suburban Worthington, Ohio. He attended Thomas Worthington High School. He then became a student at Columbus State Community College from 1988 to 1990. It was during this period that he converted to Islam, changing his name to Abdulmalek Kenyatta. Aatish Lubah (born 3 November 1995) is a Mauritian badminton player. He was one of the 14 players selected for the Road to Rio Program, a program that aimed to help African badminton players to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games. Adham Hatem Elgamal (born 4 February 1998) is an Egyptian badminton player. He won the mixed doubles title at the 2020 African Championships together with his partner Doha Hany. Elgamal competed at the 2019 African Games, won a silver in the mixed doubles, and two bronze medals in the team and men's doubles events. Hadia Mohamed Hosny Elsaid Mohamed Tawfik El Said (born 30 July 1988) is an Egyptian badminton player playing in the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics. She won the women's singles title at the 2010 African Championships, and emerged as the women's doubles gold medalist at the 2019 African Games. Personal life She is currently working as a teaching assistant at the faculty of pharmacy of the British University in Egypt. Linda Mazri ( ar, ليندا مازري; born 21 December 2001) is an Algerian badminton player. She is the gold medalist in African Games and African Championships. Augustina Ebhomien Sunday (born 23 August 1996) is a Nigerian badminton player. She educated English and Literature at the Benson Idahosa University, and in 2015, she competed at the Summer Universiade In Gwangju, South Korea. Career In 2013, she won the women's singles title at the Nigeria International partnering Uchechukwu Deborah Ukeh. Partnered with Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan, they finished runner-up at the 2014 Uganda International. In 2015, she competed at the African Games and was part of the team that won the bronze medal.
