2018–19 FC Basel Season
The 2018–19 FC Basel season is the 126th season in club history and the club's 24th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football. Basel were runners-up in the previous season. The season started on the weekend of 21–22 July 2018 and will end on Saturday 25 May 2019. The first round of the Swiss Cup was played on the week-end 29, 30 June and 1 July. Basel played the first round on Friday 29 June against lower classed FC Montlingen and they were victorious. Therefore Basel continued in the competition in the second round against FC Echallens. Basel were also qualified for qualifying phase and play-offs (League Path). The draw for the second qualifying round was held on 19 June 2018 (after the completion of the first qualifying round draw). The first leg was played on 24 July and the second leg played on 1 August 2018. But Basel were eliminated by PAOK and they therefore continued in the Play-off round of the Europa League against Vitesse Arnhem. Club Management ... Reto Baumgartner (born 28 April 1967) is a retired Swiss professional footballer who played in the late 1980s and early 1990s as defender. Since FC Basel's AGM in 2008, Baumgartner is a member of the club board of directors and since 16 November 2020, he is president of the club. He is businessman and member of the Basel-Stadt trade association. Football career Baumgartner played his youth football with Wettingen. He advanced to their first team for the first time during the 1984–85 Nationalliga A season, but usually played for their youth team. Marco Streller (born 18 June 1981) is a Swiss former footballer who played as a striker and is best known for his years with FC Basel and the Switzerland national team. Massimo Ceccaroni (born 15 August 1968) is a Swiss former professional footballer who played as a defender or midfielder. He played for FC Basel for very nearly his entire career. Massimo Colomba
Massimo Colomba (born 24 August 1977) is a Swiss footballer who played as goalkeeper. He is currently the goalkeeper coach of both FC Sion. Career As a child Colomba played in the youth teams of his local side FC Villars-sur-Glâne. In 1995, he moved to Fribourg and played one year for FC Richemond and one for FC Beauregard. Colomba began his professional career with Neuchatel Xamax in 1997. He was their reserve goalkeeper for three years and first-choice keeper during the 2000–01 and 2001–02 seasons. Carlos Bernegger
Juan Carlos Bernegger (born 9 March 1969) is an Argentine-Swiss football manager and a former player who played as a midfielder. Managerial career Bernegger had a brief career in football with Belgrano in Argentina and then Winterthur in Switzerland, but had to retire because of ligament injuries in 1993 at the age of 21. Bernegger decided to stay in Switzerland, and made his name as a youth scout and youth coach for Winterthur.
