Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. The republic of Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Juan Orlando Hernández
Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado (; born 28 October 1968), also known as JOH, is a Honduran lawyer and politician who served as President of Honduras from 2014 to 2022. A member of the National Party, Hernández previously served as the president of the National Congress of Honduras between January 2010 and June 2013, when he was given permission by the Congress to absent himself from all responsibilities in the Congress to dedicate himself to his presidential campaign. He announced that he would seek re-election in 2017, after the Supreme Court allowed it in April 2015. 2018 Swan Islands Earthquake
On 9 January 2018, at approximately 8:51 p.m. local time (02:51 10 January UTC), a 7.5 earthquake struck in the Yucatán Basin of the Caribbean Sea, east of Great Swan Island off the coast of Honduras. The earthquake was felt across Central America, and rattled windows in Tegucigalpa. The earthquake was also felt in the Cayman Islands. Tsunami advisories were issued for certain areas by the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center. They were later cancelled after further monitoring. No tsunami was generated since the earthquake was an almost pure strike-slip on a near vertical plane, producing little upward movement of the sea floor that would cause a large displacement of water. William Chong Wong (died June 17, 2018) was a Honduran economist, professor and politician. He twice served as Ministry of Finance (Honduras), Minister of Finance of Honduras, during the administrations of President Ricardo Maduro and President Porfirio Lobo Sosa. He was born in Honduras to Chinese immigrant parents and educated in Spain and the United States. He was a professor at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras and co-founded the Central American Technological University in 1987. José Walter Williams Castillo (30 September 1983 – 11 December 2018) was a Honduran soccer player who played as a defender for several clubs in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras, Honduran Liga Nacional. International career On 28 June 2013 he was called up to the Honduras national football team by Luis Fernando Suárez for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. However, he could not join the team due to a visa problem. Then on 26 February 2014 he was again summoned by Luis Fernando Suárez (in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup) for the friendly match against Venezuela national football team in San Pedro Sula. He earned his first senior cap on 5 March, playing the first 46 minutes before being substituted by Bryan Acosta in the 2–1 win over the South Americans. Roberto Suazo Córdova (17 March 1927 – 22 December 2018) was the President of Honduras from 1982 until 1986. Suazo Córdova died on 22 December 2018 following an ulcer surgical operation at the age of 91.
