The 2018 World Surf League Championship Tour (CT) is a professional competitive surfing league run by the World Surf League The World Surf League (WSL) is the governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world's best talent in a variety of progressive formats. Men and women compete in separate tours with events taking place from late March to mid-December, at various surfing locations around the world. Surfers receive points for their best events. Gabriel Medina
Gabriel Medina Pinto Ferreira (born 22 December 1993) is a Brazilian professional surfer who won the 2014, 2018 and 2021 WSL World Championships. With 16 WSL Championship Tour (CT) event wins and 29 Final appearances under his belt, Medina is one of the most experienced surfers when it comes to producing the best surfing under pressure. Medina is 2nd only to Kelly Slater for the most World Titles among surfers currently on the CT. At home in Brazil, the goofy-footer is considered a national hero thanks to the World Titles he delivered. His explosive repertoire of above-the-lip maneuvers earned him several amateur titles in his early teens, including Rip Curl’s Grom Search, Quiksilver’s King of the Groms, and several National titles. Rip Curl Pro
The Rip Curl Pro, formerly the Bells Beach Surf Classic, is a WSL (formerly ASP) World Tour surfing competition held in and around Torquay, Victoria and sponsored by surf company Rip Curl. The event is based at Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia. The event winner is awarded the prestigious 'Bell' trophy. The song "Hells Bells" by AC/DC is played every morning before the first competition. History The competition has been held annually at Easter time at Bells Beach, Victoria continuously since 1962, becoming a professional competition and sponsored by Rip Curl in 1973. Billabong Pipeline Masters
The Billabong Pipeline Masters is an event in surfing held annually at Banzai Pipeline in Oahu, Hawaii. It was established in 1971, and has been sponsored by Billabong since 2007. The MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2018 was an event in the 2018 World Surf League Men's Championship Tour. Background The 10th edition of the event was hosted in Peniche, Portugal from 16 to 27 October at the Supertubos beach in Peniche, (Leiria, Portugal). Italo Ferreira, who represents Brazil, is the current champion. Brazilian football player, Neymar Jr., was one of the notable attendees of the event. He had flown from Paris to support his fellow countryman and defending Men's Championship Tour leader, Gabriel Medina. In an interview with the WSL, Medina said, "He's a really good friend. It's good to have that kind of support. He's an inspiration for me." The Surf Ranch Pro is a professional surfing competition, currently one of the events of the World Surf League. The competition is held annually at Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California. Owen Wright (born 16 January 1990) is an Australian professional surfer on the World Surf League (formerly the Association of Surfing Professionals) Men's Championship Tour. His sister, Tyler Wright (surfer), Tyler Wright, is also a competitor on the World Surf League Championship Tour. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Olympics Wright Owen Wright battled Brazil, past injury and rough seas to take Australia's first surfing Olympic bronze medal.
