2018 U.S. Open (badminton)
The 2018 U.S. Open (officially known as the Yonex US Open 2018 for sponsorship reasons) was a badminton tournament which took place at Titan Gym in Fullerton, California, United States, from 12 to 17 June 2018 and had a total prize of $150,000. Tournament The 2018 U.S. Open was the tenth tournament of the 2018 BWF World Tour and also part of the U.S. Open championships, which had been held since 1954. This tournament was organized by USA Badminton and sanctioned by the BWF. Venue This international tournament was held at Titan Gym on the campus of California State University, Fullerton in Fullerton, California, United States. Titan Gym
Titan Gym is a 4,000 seat, indoor multi-purpose stadium on the campus of California State University, Fullerton in Fullerton, California, Fullerton, California. History and renovations Titan Gym was built in 1964. Twenty years later, the gym hosted Handball at the 1984 Summer Olympics, handball competitions for the 1984 Summer Olympics. Ronald Reagan spoke on behalf of the George H. W. Bush, Bush/Dan Quayle, Quayle campaign in 1988, his last Orange County, California, Orange County appearance as President of the United States. In order to combat wear and tear on Titan Gym, there have been a number of improvements made. Bleachers, which were used to seat the attendees, have been replaced with chair-back seats. Misha Zilberman ( he, מישה זילברמן, russian: Миша Зильберман; born 30 January 1989) is an Israeli badminton player. He competed for Israel at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympics. He also won a bronze medal at the 2022 European Badminton Championships, and represented Israel at the 2015 and 2019 European Games. Kantaphon Wangcharoen ( th, กันตภณ หวังเจริญ; born 18 September 1998) is a Thai badminton player. At the young age, Wangcharoen became the runner-up in the senior tournament 2014 Singapore International in the men's singles event after losing the match because of foot injury. Wangcharoen clinched the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in the boys' singles event, also part of the junior team that won the mixed team bronze in 2014 and 2016, and Asian mixed team bronze in 2016. Mark Caljouw
Mark Caljouw (born 25 January 1995) is a Dutch badminton player. He started playing badminton aged eight, at BC Randstad in Rijswijk. Career Caljouw was selected to join the national team in 2008, and made a debut in international senior tournament in 2012. Caljouw competed at the 2013 European Junior Championships in Ankara, Turkey, winning a silver medal in the boys' singles event, and also a bronze medal in the mixed team event. He was selected by Badminton Europe to join the Player Development Plan "Future Stars". Caljouw won the men's singles National Championships title in 2017, beating defending champion Erik Meijs in the semi-finals and first seeded Nick Fransman in the final. Brice Leverdez (born 9 April 1986) is a French badminton player. He was a champion at the 2013 Mediterranean Games, won a silver medal at the 2015 European Games, and a bronze medal at the 2018 European Championships. Sameer Verma (born 22 October 1994) is an Indian badminton player. He trains at the Gopichand Badminton Academy, Hyderabad. Sameer is the brother of Indian badminton player Sourabh Verma.
