2018 Shanghai Masters
The 2018 Shanghai Masters was a professional snooker tournament that took place in Shanghai, China from 10 to 16 September. It was a 24-man non-ranking invitation event, unlike previous editions of the Shanghai Masters which were ranking events. Ronnie O'Sullivan successfully defended the title by beating Barry Hawkins 11–9 in the final. With this win O'Sullivan became the first player to surpass £10 million in career prize money. Field The 24 players were the top-16 in the world rankings after the 2018 World Open, the next four players, outside the top-16 in the world rankings, of Chinese origin, two players from the CBSA under-21 rankings and two from China's Amateur Masters series. The Amateur Masters was won by Pu Qingsong with Guo Hua the runner-up. The two players from the CBSA under-21 rankings were Chang Bingyu and Fan Zhengyi. The Shanghai Masters is a professional snooker tournament. Originally a ranking event, it became a non-ranking invitation event in 2018. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the reigning champion. History The event was introduced in the 2007/2008 season and was the second ranking event to be held in China as a result of the growth of the sport in the country. Shaun Peter Murphy (born 10 August 1982) is an English professional snooker player who won the 2005 World Snooker Championship, 2005 World Championship. Yan Bingtao
Yan Bingtao (, born 16 February 2000) is a Chinese professional snooker player. He is the youngest player to win the Amateur World Snooker Championship after defeating Muhammad Sajjad 8–7. Having qualified to compete on the main tour for the 2015–16 season, Yan was unable to obtain a UK Visa, and decided to dedicate the year to completing his education in China. He resumed his career in 2016. He became the youngest-ever ranking event finalist at the 2017 Northern Ireland Open. Mark Williams won the match 9–8. Anthony McGill
Anthony McGill (born 5 February 1991) is a Scottish professional snooker player. He is a practice partner of retired snooker player Alan McManus. McGill turned professional in 2010, after finishing fourth in the 2009/2010 PIOS rankings. He won the 2016 Indian Open, after having previously never been beyond the quarter-final stage of a ranking event. Xiao Guodong (, born 10 February 1989) is a Chinese professional snooker player. He turned professional in 2007 after winning the Asian Under-21 Championships. Mark Allen (born 22 February 1986) is a Northern Irish professional snooker player from Antrim. He won the World Amateur Championship in 2004, turned professional the following year, and took only three seasons to reach the top 16. Zhou Yuelong (; born 24 January 1998) is a Chinese professional snooker player. He has been runner-up at three ranking events, the January 2020 European Masters, the 2020 Snooker Shoot Out, and the 2022 Northern Ireland Open. Luca Brecel
Luca Brecel (born 8 March 1995) is a Belgian professional snooker player. He won the European Under-19 title at the age of 14 and went on to break Stephen Hendry's record as the youngest player ever to compete at the Crucible Theatre. He made his debut at the 2012 World Championship aged 17 years and 45 days, almost two months younger than Hendry in 1986. Chang Bingyu
Chang Bingyu (; born 8 August 2002) is a Chinese professional snooker player. Chang is one of ten Chinese players currently suspended from the professional tour amid a List of snooker players investigated for match-fixing, match-fixing investigation. In January 2023, the WPBSA charged him with fixing a match. Following his suspension, Chang posted a message on Sina Weibo, Weibo, alleging that he had been threatened by his compatriot Liang Wenbo, who also faces match-fixing charges.
