The 2018 North Dakota Secretary of State election occurred on November 6, 2018, to elect the North Dakota Secretary of State, concurrently with various other state and local North Dakota elections, 2018, elections. Six-time incumbent North Dakota Republican Party, Republican Secretary of State Alvin Jaeger was eligible to run for re-election to a seventh term in office, but withdrew from his party's primary after failing to receive the endorsement. When the primary winner withdrew from the general election race, Jaeger and fellow Republican Michael Coachman each gathered and turned in signatures to run as Independent politician, independent candidates. North Dakota held two statewide elections in 2018: a primary election on Tuesday, June 12, and a general election on Tuesday, November 6. In addition, each township elected officers on Tuesday, March 20, and each school district held their elections on a date of their choosing between April 1 and June 30. North Dakota Supreme Court
The North Dakota Supreme Court is the highest court of law in the state of North Dakota. The Court rules on questions of law in appeals from the state's district courts. Each of the five justices are elected on a no-party ballot for ten year terms, arranged such that one seat is contested every two years. The Chief Justice is elected from the Justices every five years (or upon vacancy) by vote of the Supreme Court justices and the District Court judges. The Supreme Court is empowered to constitute a Court of Appeals consisting of a three-member panel chosen from active and retired District Court judges, retired Supreme Court justices, and lawyers. Roland Clifford Riemers (born May 15, 1943) is an American perennial candidate best known for winning the 1996 North Dakota Democratic presidential primary. Early life and career Riemers was born in 1943 in Lake City, Minnesota. He attended San Antonio College, received his AS in nursing from Anoka-Ramsey Community College in 1973, his BS in industrial technology from the University of North Dakota in 1984, and attended but did not graduate from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1998 and 1999. The North Dakota House of Representatives is the lower house of the North Dakota Legislative Assembly and is larger than the North Dakota Senate. North Dakota is divided into between 40 and 54 legislative districts apportioned by population as determined by the decennial census. The 2000 redistricting plan provided for 47 districts. Alvin A. Jaeger (born December 10, 1943) is an American politician and member of the Republican Party who had served as the Secretary of State of North Dakota from 1993 to 2023. Jaeger was elected to the office in 1992, and re-elected in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018. Biography Al Jaeger was born in Beulah, North Dakota in 1943.
