2018 Nevada Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 Nevada gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next governor of Nevada. Incumbent Republican Governor Brian Sandoval was ineligible to run for re-election, due to the absolute two-term limit established by the Nevada Constitution. Nevada is one of eight U.S. states (or nine U.S. states and territory) that prohibits its governors or any other state and territorial executive branch officials from serving more than two terms, even if they are nonconsecutive. The candidate filing deadline was March 16, 2018 and the primary election was held on June 12, 2018. The Republican nominee was Adam Laxalt and the Democratic nominee was Steve Sisolak. Sisolak won the election, becoming the first Democrat to be elected Governor of Nevada since Bob Miller won his second full term in 1994, and the first non-incumbent Democrat to win since 1982. Stephen F. Sisolak (born December 26, 1953) is an American businessman and politician who served as the 30th List of governors of Nevada, governor of Nevada from 2019 to 2023. A member of the Nevada Democratic Party, Democratic Party, he served on the Clark County Commission from 2009 to 2019 and on the Nevada System of Higher Education, Nevada Board of Regents from 1999 to 2008. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sisolak graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Lee Business School, Business School. 2018 United States Senate Election In Nevada
The 2018 United States Senate election in Nevada took place November 6, 2018, to elect one of two U.S. senators from Nevada. Democratic nominee Jacky Rosen defeated Republican incumbent Dean Heller. Heller had considered a bid for Nevada governor but instead announced he would run for reelection to a second full term. He was the only incumbent Republican senator running in a state that Hillary Clinton won in 2016. Rosen's victory marked the first time that Nevada has been represented by two women in the United States Senate, and the first time a Democrat had won the Class 1 Senate seat in Nevada since 1994 (as well as the first time both Senate seats were held by Democrats since 2001).
