2018 Mekong Club Championship
The Mekong Club Championship was an ASEAN club competition for men's association football clubs. Five teams entered as respective domestic league winners from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The championship was sponsored by Toyota. History In 2014, Toyota Motor wanted to develop in aspiring football players and football fans in the countries alongside the Mekong River: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, so Toyota debuted the competition called Mekong Club Championship. The first competition was held in 2014 at Bình Dương, Vietnam with four countries participating. Becamex Bình Dương became the first club that won the championship. The championship was sponsored by Toyota and was played between December 2017 and January 2018 featuring teams from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. In sports (particularly association football), a two-legged tie is a contest between two teams which comprises two matches or "legs", with each team as the home team in one leg. The winning team is usually determined by aggregate score, the sum of the scores of the two legs. Boeung Ket Football Club ( km, ក្លឹបបាល់ទាត់បឹងកេត, ) is a Cambodian professional football club based in Phnom Penh. It currently plays in the Cambodian Premier League, the top tier of football in the country. Founded in 2008 as Boeung Ket Rubber Field, it became Boeung Ket Angkor in 2015 and simply Boeung Ket FC in 2017. Originally based in Kampong Cham province, the club moved to play in Kandal province in 2018 and finally to the country's capital of Phnom Penh in 2019 with its current stadium, Cambodia Airways Stadium.
