2018 MPBL Anta Datu Cup
The 2018–19 MPBL Datu Cup was the second tournament of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and the first full season with a national scope. The tournament is patterned after the current format of the National Basketball Association of the United States and the now-defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association in the Philippines, which it is divided into two divisions: The Northern and the Southern Divisions. A record of 26 teams played in the conference, which ran for over 10 months, according to league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes. The almost year-long conference opened on June 12, 2018, which coincided with the Philippine Independence Day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City and ended with the final game of the MPBL Finals on April 25, 2019 where San Juan Knights prevailed over the Davao Occidental Tigers, 3 games to 2. Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines. History Manny Pacquiao launched the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League on August 29, 2017, starting off as a semi-professional league. According to Pacquiao, the league is not intended to be a competitor to the Philippine Basketball Association, the country's top professional basketball league. The MPBL was intended to feature both a regional commercial and barangay-level league with teams on the commercial side to have a home locality in addition to a corporate sponsor. In the first months, the league hosted teams from Luzon with future plans to expand to accommodate teams based in Visayas and Mindanao like the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association. Aldin Ayo
Aldin Valladolid Ayo (born October 15, 1977) is a Filipino basketball coach and politician who currently serves as head coach for the Converge FiberXers of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He formerly played (in late 90s) and coached his alma mater Letran Knights. High school career Ayo, a native of Sorsogon City, graduated from Colegio De La Milagrosa in elementary and finished his high school education at the Our Lady of Peñafrancia Seminary in 1994. Collegiate career Ayo played collegiate basketball at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran from 1998 to 2001. Basilan-BRT Peace Riders are a professional basketball team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. History The Basilan Steel was the fifth expansion team of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League from Visayas and Mindanao. Then known as the Basilan Shooters Their application was accepted by the league in May 2018 who reasoned that they want to show the beauty of the team's home locality, Basilan, "thru basketball". Januario "Aric" del Rosario (January 1, 1940 – March 25, 2020) was a Filipino basketball player and coach who served as head coach of the UST Growling Tigers in the UAAP, Pampanga Dragons in the Metropolitan Basketball Association, the 2003 RP Men's Team in the Southeast Asian Games, and of the UPHSD Altas from 2012 to 2015; until he retired and was made a consultant of the team in the NCAA.
