2018 Ligue Haïtienne Season
The 2018 Ligue Haïtienne season is the 55th season of top-tier football in Haiti. It began on 17 February 2018 and ended on 27 December 2018. The league ''Championnat National Haïtien Professionnel'' is split into two tournaments—the ''Série d'Ouverture'' and the ''Série de Clôture''—each with identical formats and each contested by the same 16 teams. Teams At the end of the 2017 season, the bottom three teams in the aggregate table; Éclair AC, America FC, and Juventus; were relegated to the Haitian second-level leagues. Replacing them were three clubs from the Haitian second-level leagues; Arcahaie FC, Valencia FC, and Cosmopolites SC. Série d'Ouverture The 2018 Série d'Ouverture began on 17 February 2018 and the regular season ended on 6 May 2018. The playoffs began on 9 May 2018 and ended on 27 May 2018. Ligue Haïtienne (; ''Haitian League''), is a Haitian professional league, governed by the Haitian Football Federation, for association football clubs. It is the country's primary football competition and serves as the top division of the Haitian football league system. Contested by 18 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Division 2. Clubs also compete against continental rivals in the CONCACAF Champions League. History Foundation It was created in 1937 and is headed by the Fédération Haïtienne de Football, the official governing body of football in the country. The champion and runner-up teams of the league's tournaments qualify to participate in the CONCACAF Champions League from the first round of the CFU Club Championship. 20 teams participate in this league and compete for the national title. Artibonite (department)
Artibonite ( French) or Latibonit (Haitian Creole) is one of the ten departments of Haiti located in central Haiti. With an area of 4,887 km2 it is Haiti's largest department. As of 2015, its estimated population was 1,727,524. The region is the country's main rice-growing area. The main cities are Gonaïves (the capital) and Saint-Marc. Saint-Marc
Saint-Marc ( ht, Sen Mak) is a commune in western Haiti in Artibonite departement. Its geographic coordinates are . At the 2003 Census the commune had 160,181 inhabitants. It is one of the biggest cities, second to Gonaïves, between Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien. Before the settlement of the French, the region was known as Amani-y ad part of the Xaragua caciquat. The port of Saint-Marc is currently the preferred port of entry for consumer goods coming into Haiti.
