2018 Knox County Mayoral Election
The 2018 Knox County mayoral election was held on August 2, 2018, to determine the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. Republican Party (United States), Republican businessman and professional wrestler, Kane (wrestler), Glenn Jacobs (better known by his ring name, Kane), won the election with 66.4% of the vote against Democratic Party (United States), Democrat Linda Haney. Incumbent mayor Tim Burchett, first elected in 2010, was term-limited and could not run for a third consecutive term. Instead, he successfully ran for the United States House of Representatives, U.S. House of Representatives in Tennessee's 2nd congressional district, to succeed the retiring 30-year incumbent representative, Jimmy Duncan (politician), Jimmy Duncan. Glenn Thomas Jacobs (born April 26, 1967), better known by the ring name Kane is an American politician and professional wrestler. Jacobs has been signed to WWE since 1995 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in WWE Hall of Fame (2021), 2021. He has also been the Republican Party (United States), Republican Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee since 2018. He began his professional wrestling career on the independent circuit in 1992, wrestling in promotions such as Smoky Mountain Wrestling (SMW) and the United States Wrestling Association (USWA), before joining the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 1995. Jacobs played various Gimmick (professional wrestling), characters until 1997, when he was repackaged as Kane, a Horror film, horror-themed personification of fire and juggernaut younger half-brother of The Undertaker and son of Paul Bearer.
