The 2018 FIFA World Cup OFC–CONMEBOL qualification play-off was a Two-legged tie, two-legged home-and-away tie between the winning team of the Oceania Football Confederation, OFC 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification – OFC Third Round, Third Round, New Zealand national football team, New Zealand, and the fifth-placed team from the CONMEBOL 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification (CONMEBOL), qualifying tournament, Peru national football team, Peru. Oceania Football Confederation
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. The OFC has 13 members, 11 of which are full members and two which are associate members not affiliated with FIFA. It promotes the game in Oceania and allows the List of men's national association football teams#OFC (Oceania), member nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. OFC is predominantly made up of island nations where association football is not the most popular sport, with low GDP and low population meaning very little money is generated by the OFC nations. The 2018 FIFA World Cup was the 21st FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men's national Association football, football teams organized by FIFA. It took place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018, after the country was awarded the hosting rights in 2010. It was the eleventh time the championships had been held in Europe, and the first time they were held in Eastern Europe. Clayton Lewis (footballer)
Clayton Rhys Lewis (born 12 February 1997 in Wellington) is a New Zealand professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Wellington Phoenix in the A-League. Club career Lewis attended St Patrick's College, Wellington from 2010 until 2014. He began his career with Wellington Olympic where he played alongside his father Barry. Lewis came into prominence in the 2013 winter season where he was a key member of the Wellington Olympic team which finished second in the Central Premier League and reached the semifinals of the Chatham Cup. Deklan Terrence Wynne (born 20 March 1995) is a New Zealand footballer who plays as a left back for the New Zealand national team. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and emigrated to New Zealand in January 2010, aged 14. Thomas Jefferson Smith (born 31 March 1990) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Colchester United. Born in England, he represents the New Zealand national team. Winston Wiremu Reid (born 3 July 1988) is a New Zealand professional footballer who last played as a defender for club West Ham United. He captained the New Zealand national team. Michael Joseph Boxall (born 18 August 1988) is a New Zealand footballer who currently plays for Minnesota United in Major League Soccer, and the New Zealand national football team. Early career in New Zealand For high school, Boxall attended and played for Mount Albert Grammar School. Stefan Tone Marinovic ( hr, Stefan Tone Marinović, ) is a New Zealand professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for the New Zealand national team. 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualification (inter-confederation Play-offs)
For the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification, there were two scheduled inter-confederation play-offs to determine the final two qualification spots to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Qualified teams The four teams participating were: Format The ties themselves were not drawn, but were allocated by FIFA as: * AFC Fifth Round winner v OFC Second Round winner * CONCACAF Fourth Round Fourth Place v CONMEBOL Fifth Place This allocation allowed better start times of the matches than the previous one because teams were now in closer time zones.
