2018 European Rowing Championships
The 2018 European Rowing Championships were rowing championships for European members of the International Rowing Federation (FISA) plus Israel. They were held as part of a new multi-sport European Championships at the Strathclyde Country Park near Motherwell, Scotland. Background 2018 was the first time that the European Rowing Championships, first held in 1893, were being held in Scotland. Competitions were being held in 17 boat classes with both lightweight and open weight events. Nearly 500 rowers were participating. The host, British Rowing, had nominated a 53-strong team for the competition. Strathclyde Country Park
Strathclyde Country Park is a country park located on the outskirts of Motherwell in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, named after the former Strathclyde region of Scotland. It is often commonly referred to as Strathclyde, or simply Strathy. Description The park covers some , centred on the artificial Strathclyde Loch. It is located next to the River Clyde between Hamilton and Motherwell. Strathclyde Park forms what used to be known as the Low Parks of the now demolished Hamilton Palace and still includes buildings associated with the palace. When the loch was created in the early 1970s it involved the flooding of the old mining village of Bothwellhaugh. The park offers many amenities and attractions such as coarse angling, woodland walks, watersports, and a camping and caravanning site. One of Scotland's theme parks, M&D's, is located in the park. Thomas Ford (rower)
Thomas Ford (born 3 October 1992) is a British national representative rower. He is a two-time world champion and an Olympic bronze medallist. Club and varsity rowing Ford was rowing for the Newcastle University Boat Club when he first represented for GB at the U23 level. Following graduation he joined the Leander Club. At the 2016 Henley Royal Regatta in a Leander crew he rowed to victory in the Ladies' Challenge Plate for men's intermediate eights. In 2022, he won the Grand Challenge Cup (the blue riband event at the Henley Royal Regatta) stroking a composite Leander/Oxford Brookes crew. In 2023 again in Leander Club colours he stroked a Leander/Oxford Brookes eight to another Grand Challenge Cup victory. Jack Beaumont (rower)
Jack Beaumont (born 21 November 1993) is a retired British rower. He is the silver medallist at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Men's quadruple sculls. He also won a silver medal at the World Championships. Career Jack is the son of Olympic rower Peter Beaumont. Beaumont started competing as part of the GB Rowing Team at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Racice, where they finished fourth. In 2014, Beaumont was a World U23 bronze medallist in men's double scull. Beaumont was involved in an accident in 2015, which fractured several vertebrae. He missed being selected for the 2016 Summer Olympics, but days before the Games started, he was chosen to replace Graeme Thomas who had fallen ill. He competed in the men's quadruple sculls event, and finished in fifth place. Matthieu Androdias
Matthieu Androdias (born 11 June 1990) is a French representative rower. He is a three time Olympian, an Olympic champion and a dual world champion. He competed in the men's quadruple sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics and in the men's double scull at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Rowing with Hugo Boucheron he won the double sculls event at the 2018 World Championships in Plovdiv having earlier that year won the European title together.
