The 2018 European Karate Championships were the 53rd edition of the European Karate Championships, and were held in Novi Sad, Serbia from 10 to 13 May 2018. SPC Vojvodina ( sr-cyr, СПЦ Војводина), short for Sports and Business Center Vojvodina ( sr, Спортски и пословни центар Војводина, Sportski i poslovni centar Vojvodina), commonly referred to as SPENS ( sr-cyr, СПЕНС), is a multi-purpose venue located in Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia. History Its construction started in 1979, based on the design documentation produced by the Institute of Architecture, Urbanism and Spatial Planning, at the University of Sarajevo. The authors of the original, competition-winning design were Prof. Zivorad Jankovic, Prof. Branko Bulic and Eng. Dusko Bogunovic. Rafael Mahir Aghayev ( az, Rafael Ağayev; born March 4, 1985, in Sumqayit, Azerbaijan SSR) is an Azerbaijani karateka. He won the silver medal in the men's kumite 75 kg division at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He is a five-time world champion, and eleven-time European champion in his discipline.
