2018 Colorado Rapids Season
The 2018 Colorado Rapids season will be the Colorado Rapids' 23rd season of existence, their 23rd season in Major League Soccer and their 23rd season in the top-tier of American soccer. Due to a reconfiguration in the CONCACAF Champions League format, the Rapids will begin play in the Champions League this year for their successes during the 2016 season. Colorado opens their slate of competitive fixtures on February 20 in the Champions League Round of 16 with a two-legged series against Canadian champions, Toronto FC in the round of 16. On March 3, the club will have their MLS opener against Chicago Fire. In either May or June, the Rapids will begin play in the U.S. Open Cup. The Colorado Rapids are an American professional soccer club based in the Denver metropolitan area. The Rapids compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Founded in 1995, as part of the Anschutz Corporation, later to be a founding sports franchise of the global sports & entertainment juggernaut AEG, the club is a founding member of MLS, playing their first season in 1996. Daniel John Wilson (born 27 December 1991) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a centre-back for Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids. Wilson began his career with Rangers before leaving for English side Liverpool in 2010. Edgar Eduardo Castillo Carrillo (born October 8, 1986) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a left-back. Castillo is noted for being one of five players to earn a senior cap for both sides of the United States-Mexico rivalry. Youth Castillo grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and played for Mayfield High School under coach Arturo Garibay. Andrew Dykstra (; born January 2, 1986) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a goalkeeper. Career College and amateur Dykstra grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia, attended Osbourn Park High School, and played college soccer at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2004 to 2008, redshirting in his first year. He was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2005, and played in all 18 matches for VCU in his senior season, being named to the All-CAA Second Team and recognized as the goalkeeper on the 2008 Scholar All-East Third Team.
