2018 Canoe Slalom World Cup
The 2018 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of five races in 5 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 31st edition. The men's C2 event was removed from the World Cup program before the start of the season by the ICF and was replaced by the mixed C2 event. This was the first season when points were awarded also for the Extreme K1 events. Calendar The series opened with World Cup Race 1 in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia (22–24 June) and ended with the World Cup Final in La Seu d'Urgell, Spain (7–9 September) for the traditional canoe slalom events. The World Championships counted for the overall world cup standings of the Extreme K1 events, but not for the traditional canoe slalom events. International Canoe Federation
The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the umbrella organization of all national canoe organizations worldwide. It is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, and administers all aspects of canoe sport worldwide. 157 countries are affiliated with the ICF after seven national federations were added at the 2008 ICF Congress in Rome. In light of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the ICF suspended athletes from Russia and Belarus from competing at any International Canoe Federation events, and suspended all officials from Russia and Belarus from officiating at any event sanctioned by ICF, and from attending or taking part in any ICF meetings, committees, and forums. Michal Martikán
Michal Martikán (; born 18 May 1979) is a Slovak slalom canoeist who has been competing at the international level since 1994. In 1996 he became the first athlete to win an Olympic gold medal for Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993. In total he won 5 Olympic medals (2 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze), which is the most among all slalom paddlers. He has also won the World Championship title in the C1 individual category four times. Career At the age of 16, Michal Martikán became the youngest winner of a World Cup slalom canoeing event. Three months later, at age 17, Martikán was in sixth place after the first run of the canoe slalom singles event at the 1996 Olympics. Nadine Weratschnig (born 18 April 1998) is an Austrian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2013. She won two bronze medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, earning them in 2015 (C1 team) and 2019 (C1). Rosalyn "Ros" Lawrence (born 12 June 1989) is an Australian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. She also competes in wildwater and creeking events. Lawrence won five medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with three golds (C1 team: 2013, 2015, 2019), a silver (C1 team: 2017) and a bronze (K1 team: 2017).
