2018 African Cross Country Championships
The 2018 African Cross Country Championships was the fifth edition of the international cross country running competition for African athletes organised by the Confederation of African Athletics. It was held on 17 March in Chlef, Algeria – the first time a North African nation had hosted the event since its re-launch in 2011. There were five races on the program: 10 km for senior men, 10 km for senior women, 8 km for junior men, 6 km for junior women, and an 8 km mixed relay. Kenya again dominated the podium at the competition, taking the top two spots in the senior men's, senior women's, and junior men's races, as well as runner-up in the mixed relay. The 21-year-old Alfred Barkach had the first major win of his career in the senior men's race and 18-year-old Celliphine Chespol took the women's title, adding senior international honours to her world steeplechase titles at under-18 and under-20 level. Yeshi Kalayu Chekole
Yeshe () is a Tibetan term meaning wisdom and is analogous to jnana in Sanskrit. Stanley Waithaka Mburu (born 9 April 2000) is a Kenyan male long-distance runner who competes in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres Mburu enjoyed his first international success at the 2017 IAAF World U18 Championships, taking a bronze medal in the 3000 metres behind Ethiopia's Selemon Barega and Kenyan compatriot Edward Zakayo. The following year he made his debut on the 2018 IAAF Diamond League circuit, taking third in the 5000 metres with a personal best of 13:10.14 minutes. This time ranked him in the top twenty for the distance that year. Charles Cheboi Simotwo (born 6 May 1995) is a Kenyan middle distance runner. On 6 July 2017 at the Athletissima Diamond League meeting at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise, in Lausanne he ran 1500m in 3:32.59 as he finished second behind Aman Wote for a new personal best which would ultimately place him inside the top 10 worldwide in the year.
