The 2017–18 Ukrainian Hockey League season was the 26th season of the Ukrainian Hockey Championship. Six teams participated in the league this season, and HC Donbass won the championship. Ukrainian Hockey Championship
The Ukrainian Hockey Championship ( ua, Чемпіонат України з Хокею, '' tr: Chempionat Ukrayiny z Khokeyu'') is an annual ice hockey award and national title, bestowed to the ice hockey organization judged to have the best performing team in Ukraine, founded in 1992. Prior to the 2015–16 season, the league playing for the title took the name Ukrainian Hockey Extra League. In 2016, the new Ukrainian Hockey League was created instead. History First Ukrainian hockey competitions were conducting since February 1949. Prior to the formation of the Professional Hockey League (PHL), the Ice Hockey Federation of Ukraine (FHU) administered and handed out the award, allowing both amateur and professional teams to compete in an annual regular season, then playoff for the title. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. HC Donbass
Hockey Club Donbass ( uk, Хокейний Клуб Донбас; russian: link=no, Хоккейный Клуб Донбасс, '' tr. Hokeinyi Klub Donbas'') is a Ukrainian professional ice hockey team based in Druzhkivka, currently playing in the Ukrainian Hockey League. HC Donbass is six times Ukrainian champion (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018). The team was a member of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) during the 2012–13 and 2013–14 seasons, and was the sole representative from Ukraine competing at the elite international level. Due to the War in Donbas, the team did not compete in the 2014–15 KHL season. Borys Kolesnikov, a prominent Ukrainian politician and businessman, purchased the team in 2010, and from then until 2014 it was the most successful hockey club in Ukraine. HC Kremenchuk
HC Kremenchuk ( uk, ХК Кременчук) is an ice hockey team based in Kremenchuk, Ukraine, playing in the Ukrainian Hockey Extra League that was formed prior to the 2016–17 season. The club was founded in 2010 and initially competed in Ukrainian amateur championships before joining the Belarusian Vysshaya Liga for 2013–14 season. After finishing the regular 2013–14 season Kremenchuk was forced to withdraw from the league prior to the playoffs due to the political situation in Ukraine. The team then joined the Ukrainian Championship for the 2014–15 season, winning the regular season and finishing as runners-up in the playoffs. Kremenchuk has also qualified for the IIHF Continental Cup on one occasion. Bilyi Bars
Hockey Club Bilyi Bars Bila Tserkva ( uk, ХК Білий Барс Біла Церква; en, White Leopard of Bila Tserkva) is a Ukrainian team based in Bila Tserkva, Ukraine. The club was a founding member of the Professional Hockey League of Ukraine and now playing in the Ukrainian Hockey League. History The Bilyi Bars were founded in 2008. They began play in Brovary (Kyiv Oblast). Twice that team won the silver of the Ukrainian Hockey Championship (2008, 2009) In 2012, the club found a new sponsor. The team moved permanently to Bila Tserkva on October 28, 2012 from Brovary, the city where they were founded. Following this, the team changed its name from HSK Bilyi Bars ( uk, ХСК Білий Барс) to HC Bilyi Bars Bila Tserkva. The home arena was opened on December 7, 2012. MHC Dynamo Kharkiv
Hockey Club Dynamo Kharkiv ( uk, МХК «Динамо» Харків) is a Ukrainian ice hockey club based in Kharkiv. The team was founded in 1979 and ceased to exist in 1992. Kharkiv Sharks (founded in 2008) were a founding member of the Professional Hockey League of Ukraine, were renamed to Dynamo Kharkiv in 2012 and disbanded in 2014. In 2017 the team re-formed again as MHC Dynamo Kharkiv. History Founded in 1979 on the base of the junior HC Dynamo Moscow team, enforced with juniors from Voskresensk, Kiev, Minsk, Ufa, Penza, and Novokuznetsk. After three seasons in the third tier of Soviet leagues, Dynamo was promoted into the second one, where it played 6 years. 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons remained the highest achievement of Dynamo in the Soviet period.
