The 2017–18 SV Werder Bremen season was the 119th season in the football club's history and 37th consecutive and 54th overall season in the top flight of German football, the Bundesliga, having been promoted from the 2. Bundesliga Nord in 1981. In addition to the domestic league, Werder Bremen were participating in this season's edition of the domestic cup competition, the DFB-Pokal. The DFB-Pokal ( is a German knockout football cup competition held annually by the German Football Association (DFB). Sixty-four teams participate in the competition, including all clubs from the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga. It is considered the second-most important club title in German football after the Bundesliga championship. Taking place from August until May, the winner qualifies for the DFL-Supercup and the UEFA Europa League unless the winner already qualifies for the UEFA Champions League in the Bundesliga.
