2017–18 Italian Women's Volleyball League
The 2017–18 Serie A1 was the 73rd season of the highest professional Italian Women's Volleyball League. The season took place from October to May, and was contested by twelve teams. Format The regular season consists of 22 rounds, where the twelve participating teams play each other twice (once home and once away). At the completion of the regular season, the eight best teams advance to the playoffs and the teams finishing in 11th and 12th are relegated to Serie A2. The standings criteria are: *highest number of result points (points awarded for results: 3 points for 3–0 or 3–1 wins, 2 points for 3–2 win, 1 point for 2–3 loss); *highest number of matches won; *highest set quotient (the number of total sets won divided by the number of total sets lost); *highest points quotient (the number of total points scored divided by the number of total points conceded). The Italian Women's Volleyball League Serie A1 ( it, Serie A1 italiana di pallavolo femminile), is the highest women's volleyball league in Italy. It is organized and administrated by the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV). It is considered one of the oldest women's top national leagues in European volleyball, being established in 1946 in sports, 1946, and its clubs have achieved significant success in the continental European club competitions. History Format The league was originally played in a Round-robin tournament, single round-robin format, with all clubs placed in a single group. As more clubs joined the league, the format changed to an initial stage composed of various groups with clubs advancing to a final group for the title. SAB Volley
SAB Volley was an Italian women's volleyball club based in Legnano. The club played in the Italian Women's Volleyball League, Serie A1 in 2017–2018. Previous names Due to sponsorship, the club have competed under the following names: * SAB Grima Irge (2015–2016) * SAB Grima Legnano (2016–2017) * SAB Volley Legnano (2017–2018) History The club was based in Gallarate when founded in 2015 and played in group A of the Serie B1 in 2015–16. Ahead of the 2016–17 season, it acquired Neruda Volley licence to play the Italian Women's 2 Volleyball League, Serie A2. The club moved its base to Legnano and renew a contract to continue to play at the PalaBorsani for three seasons. The club finished its first Serie A2 season (in 2016–17) in third place during the regular season, qualifying for the Italian Women's Volleyball League, Serie A1 promotion playoffs, reaching the final.
